Tahawwur Rana: As the extradition of Tahawwur Rana nears, the world is watching closely—and so is Pakistan, though it’s now pretending to look the other way. The 64-year-old, Pakistan-born Canadian national, is being brought to India to stand trial for his alleged involvement in the 26/11 Mumbai attack, one of the deadliest terror assaults in Indian history. His arrival not only marks a major milestone in India’s pursuit of justice but also exposes uncomfortable truths for Pakistan, especially its military and intelligence circles.

Pakistan Scrambles to Disown Tahawwur Rana After Extradition

In a hurried attempt to distance itself from the 26/11 attack accused, the Pakistan Foreign Office issued a public video statement claiming Tahawwur Rana had not renewed his Pakistani documents in the last two decades. They stressed that his Canadian nationality was “very clear.” But the timing of this statement raises eyebrows.

Rana is no ordinary accused. He is believed to have deep links with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and was a close associate of David Coleman Headley, also known as Daood Gilani, a key conspirator in the Mumbai attacks. Insiders believe Rana’s extradition may uncover Pakistan’s hidden hand in the attack, hence the country's sudden urge to distance itself.

India Tightens Security as Tahawwur Rana Lands

With Rana’s extradition process in full swing, Indian authorities are not taking any chances. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Ministry of Home Affairs are working closely under the supervision of NSA Ajit Doval to ensure a seamless transfer.

Special paramilitary and Delhi Police units have been deployed at the NIA headquarters and Patiala House Court. Even Gate No. 2 of the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Metro Station, close to the NIA building, was shut due to security concerns.

Charges That Could Shake Pakistan's Foundations

Once in India, Tahawwur Rana will face serious charges under Indian law. These include waging war against India, criminal conspiracy, murder, and violations under UAPA. His links to Lashkar-e-Taiba, the terror group behind the 26/11 Mumbai attack, and ties to the Pakistan establishment could lead to damning revelations.

According to officials, Rana will be kept in a high-security ward at Tihar Jail and presented before a Delhi court soon after arrival.
