He had been ill for a while, but for the past few months, he had been at home. Subhashini Sharad Yadav, a Congress leader, announced his departure on Twitter by writing “Papa Nahin Rahe” (Papa is no more). Senior political figures sent their condolences, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarking that the late socialist leader Ram Manohar Lohia served as an inspiration for Yadav’s lengthy career in public life and his socialist principles.  4. Supreme Court reserves judgment in the Bhopal gas tragedy case over the Center’s request for increased victim compensation

On Thursday, the Supreme Court’s Constitution Bench postponed rendering a decision on the curative plea filed by the Centre asking for further compensation for Bhopal gas tragedy victims beyond the $470 million Union Carbide has previously paid. A five-judge panel chaired by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul has made it clear that it will not use a curative petition to reopen the 1989 settlement between the government and the pesticide industry.

6. Sirisena mandated to compensate Easter bombing victims by the Sri Lanka Supreme Court

The Easter Sunday terror attacks in April 2019 left more than 2,000 people dead. On Thursday, Sri Lanka’s Supreme Court ordered the former president Maithripala Sirisena to compensate the victims with LKR 100 million (roughly 2.2 crore), while criticising the Executive for its “reckless” intelligence failure. The island’s highest court stated that “a Victim Fund must be established at the Office for Reparation, which must devise a mechanism to disburse the funds decreed as compensation to the victims and relatives in a fair and equitable way.” Additionally, restitution orders totaling more than LKR 200 million were issued against the former IGP, former Secretary to the Ministry of Defense, former Director of the State Intelligence Service, former Director of National Intelligence, and the State.
