Two TMC workers groups clash in Bengal’s Malda, here’s what happened

Clashes broke out on Sunday afternoon over the election of the Madrasa Management Committee in Ratua in Malda district of West Bengal. Following the tension, there were reports of firing and bomb blasts in the area in which several people were also injured.

Police sources said tension escalated in the clash between two factions of the Trinamool Congress over the Ratua Batna High Madrassa election. Officials said, ‘We were told that at least three people were seriously injured. One of them has got bullet injuries. Security has been tightened in the area following the incident and the injured have been admitted to Malda Medical College Hospital. Both sides also attacked each other with iron rods and bamboo sticks. Several properties including vehicles were reportedly damaged in the clash.

Two TMC workers killed in Birbhum, six arrested

Two Trinamool Congress workers were killed after they were allegedly bombed in West Bengal’s Birbhum district on Saturday ahead of the panchayat elections. Police gave this information. Six people have been arrested in connection with the incident. Police identified the dead as Laltu Shaikh, brother of the Trinamool Congress panchayat chief, and Newton Shaikh, his aide. According to opposition leaders, the incident is a result of a tussle between two factions of the ruling TMC.

Sources said the two men were returning home on a motorcycle in Rampurhat Margram village when some people hurled a bomb at them and fled. Police said that two accused are still absconding. A senior police officer said the bomb blast took place near Hospital More at 10 pm on Saturday. Trinamool Congress leader Bhutto Sheikh’s brother Laltu and his friend Newton Sheikh were seriously injured in the bomb attack and both were later declared brought dead. The matter has been taken up. Further investigation is on.

Police have arrested six people in the case, while 15 have been named in the FIR registered under various sections of the IPC, including murder, and sections of the Explosive Substances Act.
