Union Minister Smriti Irani Slams Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Mohabbat Ki Dukaan’ Speech, Questions ‘Love for Nation or Politics?’

Smriti Irani: Union Minister Smriti Irani criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his “mohabbat ki dukan” pitch, which the Gandhi scion had made during the Bharat Jodo Yatra and following the Karnataka election results. Rahul Gandhi, who is on a 10-day tour to the US, recently spoke at an occasion there called “Mohabbat Ki Dukaan.”

Irani, a fiery BJP leader, launched a stinging attack on the former Congress MP, asking, “Ye kaisa ishq hai jo desh se nahi apni politial siyasat se hai?” What sort of love is this—passion for your politics rather than the nation? When ‘The Kerala Story’ is shown, it says nothing. Smriti Irani questioned whether Gandhi’s “mohabbat” (love) meant condemning the Hindu way of life, killing Sikhs, and seeking foreign interference to undermine India’s democracy, casting doubt on his “mohabbat ki dukan” speech. “When you talk about ‘mohabbat’, does that include the kidnapping of women in Rajasthan? When you talk about ‘mohabbat’, does that include denouncing the Hindu way of life? When you talk about ‘mohabbat’, does it mean partnering with those who want to bring India to a standstill? When you talk about ‘mohabbat’, does that ‘mohabbat’ compel you to go seek outside intervention against your own democracy,” Continuing her rant against Gandhi, whom she had defeated in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from his bastion Amethi, the BJP leader questioned.

‘Does this affection not extend to Prime Minister Narendra Modi? Smriti Irani slammed the Congress lawmaker for disparaging the image of the Prime Minister. If the Congress had anything positive to say about him, I would be astonished.’ The Congress must criticise Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s reputation. ‘He is not included in the Congress’s “mohabbat” ‘ according to the Union’s minister for women’s and children’s development. She also criticised Rahul Gandhi for claiming that the administration does not treat minorities fairly. Irani claimed that although the “Gandhi Khandan” refers to itself as the “protector of minorities,” the UPA government led by the Congress spent only Rs 860 crore on merit-based scholarships while spending Rs 2,691 crore under the Modi administration.
