G20 Summit

G20 Summit: The G20 Leaders’ Summit, held in Delhi on Sunday with tremendous passion under India’s chairmanship, was hailed as a “absolute success” by the United States. We absolutely believe it was a success, said US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller to reporters on Monday at a routine news briefing. A sizable organisation is the G20. Russia belongs to the G20. China is a G20 participant. In response to a question from the media asking if the G20 Summit was successful, the spokeswoman spoke.

Russia’s Absence and G20’s Strong Stance

When asked about Russia’s absence from the New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration, he said, “There are members that have a diverse range of views. We believe the fact that the organisation was able to issue a statement that calls for respecting territorial integrity and sovereignty and saying that those principles should not be violated is an extremely important statement because that is exactly what is at the heart of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.” “It is those very questions so we thought that was an incredibly important statement for them to make,” Miller added. The G20 nations declared on Saturday that the “use or threat of use of nuclear weapons is inadmissible” in reference to the conflict in Ukraine.

G20’s Message of Peace and Diplomacy

The G20 member nations, without specifically mentioning Russia, recalled the Bali declaration, emphasised that all States must act in accordance with the entire UN Charter’s purposes and tenets, and called for a “comprehensive, just, and durable peace in Ukraine.” They also urged other members to “refrain from the threat, or use of force, to seek territorial acquisition.” “Concerning the war in Ukraine, while recalling the discussion in Bali, we reiterated our national positions and resolutions adopted at the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly and underscored that all States must act in a manner consistent with the Purposes and Principles of the UN Charter in its entirety. In line with the UN Charter, all states must refrain from the threat or use of force to seek territorial acquisition against the territorial integrity and sovereignty or political independence of any state. The use or threat of use of nuclear weapons are inadmissible,” the joint declaration read.

New Delhi Declaration Affirms Role Amidst Global Challenges

The G20 was reaffirmed as the leading forum for international economic cooperation in the New Delhi Declaration, and the member nations agreed that although geopolitical and security issues can have an impact on the world economy, they do not belong on the G20 agenda. The G20 members urged all nations to maintain international law’s fundamental tenets, including as territorial integrity and sovereignty, international humanitarian law, and the multilateral structure that protects peace and stability. “The peaceful resolution of conflicts, and efforts to address crises as well as diplomacy and dialogue are critical. We will unite in our endeavour to address the adverse impact of the war on the global economy and welcome all relevant and constructive initiatives that support a comprehensive, just, and durable peace in Ukraine that will uphold all the Purposes and Principles of the UN Charter for the promotion of peaceful, friendly, and good neighbourly relations among nations in the spirit of ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’,” the New Delhi Declaration read.

Showcasing Tradition, Leadership, and Global Priorities

India served as the host nation for the first time for the G20 Summit. On September 9 and 10, New Delhi hosted the G20 Summit. India’s traditions and strengths were depicted in great detail. India has concentrated on a number of topics during its presidency, including equal access to global health care, inclusive growth, digital innovation, and climate resilience. Brazil will assume the G20 leadership following India, who held it last year when Indonesia was in office.
