As many as three members of a family were killed and four were reported missing after a cloudburst in Mando village in Uttarkashi district early on Monday. This includes two women, one man and a child, according to Inspector Jagdamba Prasad of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
"Three people died and four people were reported as missing after a cloudburst in Mando village in Uttarkashi district," said Inspector Jagdamba Prasad.
Amid heavy rainfall in many parts of the state, several houses were submerged by water in some areas of the Mando village after the cloudburst, said the SDRF. Prasad was initially informed by the District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO), Uttarkashi that some people were trapped in the village due to water coming from the drain in Mando village on Gangotri road, the SDRF added.
Rescue operations are currently underway in the region. More details of the incident are awaited.
The Indian Meteorological Department on Sunday predicted widespread rainfall and isolated heavy to very heavy rains over the western Himalayan region and adjoining northwest India from July 18 to 21. Several parts of Delhi, adjoining NCR and Haryana received heavy rainfall on wee hours of Monday, causing waterlogging and affecting movement of vehicles.
