Women’s Reservation Bill: Union Law Minister tabled Bill in Lok Sabha

Women’s Reservation Bill: The Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha by Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on Tuesday. The name of Bill is “Nari Shakti Vandan.”

In the midst of the opposition’s demand for more clarification on the women’s quota bill, the minister introduced the Bill. In response, BJP leaders informed them that “the revolutionary bill has been uploaded and can be viewed by the MPs.”

“The Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-eighth Amendment) Bill, 2023 is a very important Bill. We are inserting Article 239AA, through which 33 per cent women will get reservation in the national capital territory (NCT) of Delhi. We are making an amendment in Article 330A through which, reservation of seats for SC/ST which is already there, we are including 33 per cent reservation for women,” Meghwal added.

The minister stated that a subcategory has been added to Article 332 that states that 33% of seats in the Legislative Assembly of each State will be reserved for women. The Bill states that Article 334 will now include a new clause that will no longer be in effect after 15 years have passed from its beginning.

The Women’s Reservation Bill will be introduced on Tuesday, according to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and will be discussed on September 20.

PM Modi supported more involvement of women in the country

Earlier, PM Modi supported more involvement of women in the country in his inaugural speech to the Lok Sabha of the new Parliament building. Additionally, he stated that the long-awaited women’s reservation measure has received cabinet approval.

“Work on women-led development is indispensable,” PM Modi.

The proposed bill will grant women a 33% reservation in the Lok Sabha and state legislative bodies. On Monday night, the Union Cabinet approved the law.
