About His FIL’s Demise

Arjun’s FIL (Rakesh Chandra Swami – aged 73) had recently suffered a head injury and was under treatment at a private hospital in Mumbai. According to family sources, he was about to have dinner when he suddenly suffered a stroke and was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he was placed on a ventilator. Despite medical care, he passed away in the afternoon of January 1.

A family member told Hindustan Times, “He was fit and fine, set to have dinner when suddenly he suffered a stroke and was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he was on a ventilator. The entire family is in shock, as Neha and Arjun had met the family before flying off. It was a sudden shock, and we are all still grappling with the situation.”

Swami is survived by his daughter Neha and son Nishank. The timing of the tragedy, during New Year celebrations, has made it even harder for the family. Arjun, who had travelled to Dubai for New Year, immediately returned to Mumbai upon hearing the news.

On the professional front, Arjun Bijlani recently won the reality show Rise and Fall, hosted by Ashneer Grover. He defeated social media influencer Aarush Bhola and reality TV star Arbaz Patel, taking home the winner’s trophy and Rs 28 lakh in prize money.

Indore News: Indore Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr Madhav Prasad Hasani has remarked that a laboratory test has confirmed that bacteria found in sewer water caused contamination, which resulted in the death of at least 9 residents and hospitalization of more than 100 people.

What’s important about the Indore News?

A city-based medical college prepared the test report. It was revealed that the deaths and hospitalizations of residents in Indore’s Bhagirathpura area were caused by bacteria “usually found in sewer water.”

Meanwhile, the Madhya Pradesh government has received a notice from the National Human Rights Commission over the Indore deaths.

What started the Indore water tragedy?

According to local residents, people started complaining about an unusual smell on December 25 in water.

Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr Madhav Hasani said the report by Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College lab revealed that the consumption of contaminated water was the primary cause. He added that the “bacteria-laden” water was caused due to a leak in the pipeline.

More than 2,456 people have experienced diarrhea and vomiting symptoms in the area, of which 162 have been hospitalized.

What has the 8th Pay Commission hinted?

The 8th Pay Commission has hinted that the DA and DR hike for the 8th CPC may be lower than expected. As per the latest data from the Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI‑IW) for November 2025, the current trend points only a marginal increase of 2 percent, effective from January 1 2026.

Is this the final verdict?

These figures are provisional as of now and may or may not change. However, they do serve as a realistic preview of what central government employees and pensioners can expect. It is likely that the final percentage of DA and DR would be confirmed only after the CPI‑IW data for December 2025 is officially released by the Labour Bureau.

What Does a 2% DA/DR Hike Mean?

Dhurandhar Box Office Collection Day 28: Ranveer Singh‘s Dhurandhar is still unstoppable at the box office. The Ranveer Singh-led thriller continues its strong run. A new release could not slow it down. On New Year’s Day, the film saw a big jump in collections and stayed on top.

This is the third time in four weeks that a fresh release failed to affect Dhurandhar. This time, the challenge came from Sriram Raghavan’s Ikkis. Even after four weeks in cinemas, Dhurandhar held its ground with ease.

Dhurandhar Box Office Collection Day 28

As per Sacnilk, Dhurandhar earned Rs 15.75 crore net in India on January 1 (Day 28). This marked a 43% jump from the previous day. The film had earned around Rs 11 crore earlier.

With this, Dhurandhar ended its fourth week with a huge Rs 739 crore domestic total. The New Year holiday clearly worked in its favour. Evening and night shows remained packed across major centres.

The fourth-week performance has been historic. Dhurandhar earned over Rs 100 crore in its fourth week alone. This is another record for an Indian film. The total now stands close to Pushpa 2’s Hindi record of Rs 812 crore. Trade experts expect the film to cross Rs 800 crore very soon.

Several films tried to challenge Dhurandhar. First came Avatar 3. Then Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri released during Christmas. Both failed to make an impact. Ikkis arrived later, when most films usually slow down. Even then, Dhurandhar earned more than double of the new release on New Year’s Day.

Ikkis did better than expected. The Agastya Nanda starrer opened at Rs 7 crore on Day 1. It beat early trade predictions. Still, the difference between the two films was clear. On a key holiday, Dhurandhar dominated footfalls and collections.

The film’s success shows its wide appeal. Audiences are still turning up in large numbers and word of mouth remains strong. Holiday support has only boosted its run further.

About the Film

Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar is an espionage thriller inspired by Operation Lyari in Karachi. The story follows Hamza, an undercover Indian agent played by Ranveer Singh. He enters a dangerous terror network in Pakistan to destroy it from within.

The cast includes Akshaye Khanna as antagonist Rehman Dakait and Sanjay Dutt as SP Chaudhary Aslam. R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, and Sara Arjun also play key roles. The film released on December 5, 2025.

A revised version of the film is now running in theatres. Some words were muted and a dialogue was changed after government directives. These updates were rolled out through a new DCP on New Year’s Eve.

According to reports, Dhurandhar is expected to stream on Netflix from January 30, 2026. A sequel (Dhurandhar 2 – Revenge) is already scheduled for release on March 19, 2026.

Iran Unrest: At least 7 people have been reported dead in the latest wave of nationwide protests against the leadership of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

What led to Iran Protest?

The unrest has primarily been fuelled by the ailing economy of Iran. The economy has been struggling for decades because of sanctions by western countries such as the United States over the nuclear program of Iran.

Meanwhile, the US State Department has deep concerns over reports of Iranian protestors facing violence, arrests and intimidation. It urged the authorities in the Islamic Republic to halt the nationwide crackdown immediately.

As per latest reports, one United States dollar is equal to 42,125 Iranian Rial.

Extent Of Protests

Initially, the protests started by local bazaar vendors and shopkeepers. It quickly spread to multiple provinces in the country. Soon after, students joined demonstrations at colleges and universities. There have many reports of confrontations in Lordegan and incidents at a Lorestan police station.

In several Iranian cities, protestors have been chanting anti-regime and pro-Shah slogans. They have attacked many government buildings and state infrastructure. The protests have moved beyond the Iranian Capital to cities such as Isfahan, Kermanshah, Shiraz, Karaj, Hamedan, Qeshm, Malard and Yazd.

Protestors have expressed their support for Reza Pahlavi, who is the son of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Mohammad was overthrown in the 1979 Islamic Revolution. In a statement on X, Reza remarked that he is with protestors and said our victory is certain because we are united and our cause is just.

Ikkis Box Office Collection Day 1: Ikkis was released in cinemas on January 1 with high expectations. The war drama marks the big-screen debut of Agastya Nanda and also features the late Dharmendra in his final on-screen role. Directed by Sriram Raghavan and produced by Maddock Films, the film arrived amid tough box office conditions and stiff competition.

Despite the challenges, Ikkis managed a better-than-expected opening on its first day.

As per industry tracker Sacnilk, Ikkis has earned Rs 7 crore net at the Indian box office on Day 1. The film collected around Rs 8.40 crore gross before taxes. It played across nearly 2,468 shows nationwide.

Occupancy remained average through the day. Early estimates showed around 31.8 per cent attendance, with evening and night shows recording stronger footfall than morning shows. This trend suggested that word of mouth helped the film as the day progressed.

What grabbed attention was that the opening figure crossed most pre-release expectations. Trade predictions had remained cautious due to weak advance bookings. Some analysts had even expected the film to open around Rs 3-4 crore. Therefore, the final Day 1 number surprised many in the trade.

Ikkis faced heavy pressure from Ranveer Singh’s blockbuster Dhurandhar, which continues to dominate screens even in its fourth week. The film still enjoys strong occupancy and has limited the availability of prime shows for new releases in several cities.

Because of this, Ikkis struggled to secure enough screens and favourable show timings. Even so, the film managed to draw audiences later in the day. Trade experts believe curiosity around the subject and emotional interest in Dharmendra’s final performance played a key role.

Industry insiders also pointed out that poor pre-sales and slow advance bookings hinted at a difficult run. However, the opening day numbers suggested that audience response improved after release. Reports from portals like BOI and Pinkvilla also mentioned external feeding.

Some observers accused the makers of relying on corporate bookings to push the opening figures. Strategic block bookings at multiplexes may have helped lift the Day 1 total slightly. This has led to mixed reactions within trade circles.

About The Film

Ikkis is a biographical war drama based on the life of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, India’s youngest Param Vir Chakra awardee. The story is set during the 1971 Indo-Pak War and focuses on the Battle of Basantar, where Khetarpal destroyed ten enemy tanks before being martyred at just 21.

The film uses two timelines. One follows the 1971 battlefield. The other moves to 2001 and shows Arun’s father, Brigadier ML Khetarpal, visiting Pakistan and meeting Brigadier Naseer, who was linked to Arun’s final moments.

Khokon Chandra Das: A mob attempted to stab and burn a Hindu trader on the night of December 31 in Mymensingh district.

What’s the Khokon Chandra Das Incident?

Khokan Chandra Das, who runs a medical pharmacy and a mobile banking business, was returning home at 9 pm to Tiloi from Keurbhanga area of Kaneshwar Union. Some miscreants stopped Khokan and started assaulting him severely.

Sharp weapons were used by miscreants to strike the Hindu trader many times. However, Khokan survived by jumping into a pond. This is when some locals turned to rescue Khokan. Later, he was admitted to a hospital in Shariatpur. The condition of Khokan is critical.

Seema Das, the wife of Khokan, said she fails to understand why her husband met such a brutal fate. Seema said they had no enemies in the area yet we were targeted. She also commented that her husband recognized one of the attackers and therefore they poured petrol on his face and head before setting him on fire.

Is this the first attack in Mymensingh?

In two weeks, this is the fourth such attack on minorities in Bangladesh. On December 30, a garment factory worker Bajendra Biswas was shot dead by Noman Mia. A 27-year-old man Dipu Chandra Das was beaten by mob to death. His body was later tied to a nearby tree and set ablaze.

A fresh political controversy has erupted after BJP leader Sangeet Som called Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan a “traitor”. His remark came after Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) signed Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman ahead of the IPL 2026 season.

KKR is co-owned by Shah Rukh Khan. The team picked Rahman for Rs 9.2 crore during the IPL auction. Soon after, the decision sparked strong reactions. Several right-wing leaders questioned the move. They linked it to reports of violence against religious minorities in Bangladesh.

Sangeet Som became the loudest voice in the debate. He took the issue to a public stage and directly targeted Shah Rukh Khan. His comments quickly triggered outrage and a wider political row.

What Sangeet Som Said About Shah Rukh Khan

Speaking at a public gathering in Meerut, Sangeet Som questioned Shah Rukh Khan’s intentions. He said celebrities who gained fame and success in India should not support or associate with countries where Hindus are allegedly facing persecution.

Som also made another controversial claim. He said that if Mustafizur Rahman comes to India to play, he may not even be able to step out of the airport. His remarks further fueled anger and concern.

SRK Traitor Controversy Sparks Political And Social Media Reactions

Political reactions followed soon after. Congress MP Manickam Tagore strongly criticised Som’s remarks. He described them as an “attack on India’s pluralism”. He said hate-driven politics harms social harmony and weakens national unity.

Other Congress leaders also spoke out. They said IPL team selections are professional decisions. They added that sports should not be dragged into political debates.

However, social media saw the sharpest response. Many users questioned why Shah Rukh Khan was being blamed. They pointed out that player approvals fall under the BCCI. One user wrote,

In a decisive breakthrough in the grave case of 328 missing sacred saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji, the Punjab Police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) has arrested the prime accused, Chartered Accountant (CA) Satinder Singh Kohli, marking a significant step forward in the pursuit of accountability in one of the most sensitive matters to have shaken the Sikh community.

The development was disclosed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab chief spokesperson and MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, along with senior AAP leader Baltej Pannu, emphasizing that the investigation has entered a critical phase with concrete action on the ground.

Declaring it a long-awaited moment of justice for the Sikh sangat, AAP Punjab Chief Spokesperson and MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal said, “Today is a very big achievement for Sikh sangats, one that they have been waiting for over the last four to five years. Acting on the directions of the High Court, the SIT has arrested Satinder Singh Kohli from a hotel in Chandigarh. He is the main accused in the missing saroops case and was also serving as the CA of the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) at the time,” he stated.

Recalling the prolonged fight for justice, the AAP Punjab Chief Spokesperson said that Sikh sangats had been continuously mobilising for years, holding protests and demonstrations to demand accountability. “For several years, Sikh sangats have been raising their voice and staging protests for justice in this case. A major mobilisation was also led under the leadership of renowned kirtankar Bhai Baldev Singh Wadala. This is the first arrest in the case, and that too of the main accused, which makes it all the more significant,” he said.

Reaffirming the Punjab government’s commitment, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal assured strict action against every person involved. “I want to assure the Sikh sangat that all 16 accused who are responsible for making the sacred saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji go missing will be arrested and sent behind bars. This is the firm commitment of the Punjab government, and no guilty person will be spared,” he asserted.

Meanwhile, AAP Punjab senior leader Baltej Pannu said that the investigation was initiated following the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court while hearing a petition related to the disappearance of 328 sacred saroops. “The High Court had directed an investigation into the matter, after which the Punjab Police registered an FIR against 16 individuals and constituted a Special Investigation Team to probe the case,” Baltej Pannu said.

Providing further details, Baltej Pannu said that stringent steps have already been taken against all those named in the case. “Look Out Circulars have been issued against all 16 named accused. Arrest warrants against Satinder Singh Kohli had already been issued, and he was evading the police while hiding in a hotel in Chandigarh, from where he has now been arrested,” he stated.

Emphasising that the probe is far from over, Baltej Pannu said the arrest could lead to several crucial revelations. “The police investigation is ongoing, and we expect many more disclosures in this case, especially because the same Chartered Accountant had been auditing the SGPC. This arrest can open up several big facts linked to the conspiracy,” he said.

 Punjab is launching an extensive campaign, “Sade Buzurg Sada Maan,” on January 16, 2026, in District SAS Nagar. The campaign will be implemented district, wise and aims at delivering essential services to senior citizens right at their homes all over the state. 

Through this program, elderly people will be able to attend 

  • Free health and medical camps, including eye, ENT, and general health checkups 
  • Cataract screening and surgery Participate in Yoga sessions and be aware through programmes on healthy aging Get legal and social support services 

Financial Commitment and Support Services

Dr. Baljit Kaur informed us that the government has set aside almost 24 crores exclusively for the welfare of senior citizens in the 2025-26 financial year. 

The allocation accounts for

  • Free medical camps and health awareness schemes 
  • Old Age Homes and Day Care Centers 
  • Support the State Action Plan for Senior Citizens funds totaling 786. 
  • A toll-free helpline (14567) for senior citizens to reach out to when having issues or grievances 

Strengthening Elderly Rights and Legal Protection 

This campaign strengthens the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007, which is the legal backbone for the rights of senior citizens. As per this legal framework, Punjab has been able to dispose of a large number of cases through Maintenance Tribunals and Appellate Tribunals, thereby providing elders with justice and support in a timely manner.

 Dr. Baljit Kaur strongly asserted that senior citizens constitute the heritage of our society, and it is a government debt of honor to make sure that they live their old age with dignity, respect, and well-being. Punjab has today emerged as a state in the country where “government is run not from offices, but from people’s homes.” This wave of administrative reforms has not only ensured transparency and accountability in government functioning but has also uprooted the decades-old culture of “recommendations and delays.”

Discussing this transformative change, Cabinet Minister Aman Arora said that due to the state government’s visionary policies, the common citizen of Punjab is now able to avail government services from the comfort of their homes. The “Bhagwant Mann Sarkar Tuhade Dwar” scheme has proven to be a strong pillar of this digital revolution, providing over 1.85 lakh citizens with 437 different services at their doorsteps. This scheme not only saves time but has also emerged as a major support for the elderly and rural residents.

The greatest example of administrative efficiency has been seen in the Revenue Department, where over 12.46 lakh applications have been processed online by Patwaris. This incorporation of technology has simplified land and property-related tasks, which were once a hotbed of corruption and delays. The entire process is now paperless, and QR-coded digital certificates have added a new dimension to security and authenticity. This eliminates the need for citizens to visit offices or resort to middlemen.

The key to this government’s success is real-time monitoring through the “Digital Dashboard.” Thanks to this state-of-the-art system, pendency (pending cases) across all departmental services has now dropped to a mere 0.33%, the lowest level in the state’s administrative history. Minister Aman Arora clarified that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has clearly directed that public work must be completed within timeframes without any hindrance. Today, Punjab has proven that by combining technology and strong political will, a transparent and corruption-free governance system can be established, directly dedicated to the welfare of the common man.
