Punjab Budget 2026-27 Strengthens CM Bhagwant Singh Mann’s Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna with ₹2,000 Crore Allocation

CM Bhagwant Mann

The Bhagwant Mann Government has further strengthened its commitment to universal healthcare access by allocating ₹2,000 crore to the ‘Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna’ in the Punjab Budget 2026-27. The allocation reinforces one of Punjab’s largest healthcare protection initiatives under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, aimed at ensuring that families do not have to delay critical treatment due to financial constraints.

For many families, a medical emergency often begins with two urgent questions about how quickly treatment can begin and how the cost will be managed. Over the past months, families across Punjab have found answers through the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, a health protection programme that has steadily expanded its reach across Punjab.

Building on this momentum, the Punjab Government has allocated ₹2,000 crore for the scheme in the 2026-27 Budget to further expand its reach and ensure that families across Punjab continue to receive cashless medical treatment of up to ₹10 lakh at government and empanelled private hospitals.

The programme now covers nearly 65 lakh families across Punjab, benefiting close to 3 crore residents and offering protection against the financial shock that often accompanies serious illness. The programme’s growing reach is reflected in the rapid expansion of enrolment and healthcare partnerships across Punjab.

More than 9 lakh Sehat Cards have already been issued, enabling beneficiaries to access treatment at over 820 empanelled government and private hospitals. The scheme currently offers more than 2,300 treatment packages covering a wide range of medical procedures.

Speaking about the enhanced allocation in the Budget, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “In moments of illness, families should not have to think about money before seeking treatment. Our aim is simple: every household in Punjab should have the confidence that quality healthcare will be available when they need it most.”

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann added, “Through the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, thousands of families who once struggled with medical expenses are now able to access treatment without financial stress.”

Under the scheme, beneficiaries can receive treatment for a wide range of serious medical conditions including heart disease, cancer, kidney ailments, orthopaedic procedures and accident-related injuries without paying upfront costs. This coverage ensures that treatment decisions are guided by medical urgency rather than a family’s financial capacity.

Medical services across Punjab have also been strengthened through the appointment of over 1,500 doctors in recent years, including more than 600 specialists and over 900 general doctors, accounting for nearly 35 percent of the doctors currently serving across Punjab.

The Punjab Government continues to encourage eligible residents to enrol for the Sehat Card at nearby Seva Kendras and Common Service Centres to avail cashless treatment benefits under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna. To expand awareness and enrolment, trained youth club members are already conducting door-to-door campaigns to assist residents in registering and getting their Sehat Cards issued.

Chaitra Navratri 2026-Dates And Significance

Chaitra Navratri would begin on March 19, 2026, with Ghatasthapana, and concludes on March 27 with Ram Navami. It symbolizes the triumph of good over evil as Maa Durga defeats Mahishasura, ushering in prosperity for the Vikram Samvat Year 2083.

Devotees across the country would perform garba dances, daily pujas and fasts to seek blessings of the nine forms of Maa Durga for wealth, success, prosperity, peace and health. In India, especially the northern states of the country, temples would overflow with vibrant processions and Kanya Pujan on Asthami and Navami.

Puja Vidhi Step-by-Step

To start Navratri 2026 Puja, you could start preparations on the first day of Navratri (March 19, 2026) with a clean altar facing the east or north direction. To get started, you may fill a copper pot with water, add coins, durva grass and betel nut. Thereafter, you need to place a coconut on top and invoke Lord Ganesha or Varuna Dev with mantras like “Om Gam Ganapataye Namah”, preferably in the morning.

For daily invocation, you may light a ghee diya and agarbatti and chant Ganesh Mantra followed by Durga Mantras such as “Om Aim Hreem Kleem Chamundaye Vichche” or “Om Dum Durgayei Namaha.” You may offer flowers, incense, naivedya, fruit and belpatra.

For Aarti and Havan, you may wave camphor lamp clockwise during Durga Aarti. On Asthami or Navami day, you need to perform havan with samagri like fruits, ghee and herbs while reciting Durga Saptashati or Chalisa daily.

Fasting Vrat Rules

You can use curd, paneer, kuttu/singhara atta, sabudana, potatoes, fruits, milk or buckwheat. Sattvic drinks such as coconut water or herbal tea is allowed but onions, grains (wheat, rice), garlic, non-vegetarian foods, alcohol and tamasic foods are not allowed. During Navratri period, you should make it a point to maintain celibacy, avoid anger and speak truth. Avoid wooden beds and prefer sleeping on floor.

Mistakes To Avoid

Keep the akhand diya lit 24/7 and don’t extinguish. Avoid regular salt and use only sendha namak. Avoid negative or intimacy thoughts and practice positivity and forgiveness. ‘Contributes to the Death of Indian Soldiers….’ Sunil Gavaskar Fierce Warning After SunRisers Leeds Sign Abrar Ahmed in The Hundred Auction, Check

      sunil-gavaskar

Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has sparked widespread debate after strongly criticising the decision by SunRisers Leeds to sign Pakistan spinner Abrar Ahmed in the 2026 auction of The Hundred.

Reacting to the move, Sunil Gavaskar delivered a dramatic warning, saying that payments made to Pakistani players could indirectly benefit the Pakistani system at a time when tensions between the two nations remain high. His controversial remark — suggesting such financial flows could be seen as “contributing to the death of Indian soldiers” — quickly went viral across social media and news platforms.

The Auction Deal That Sparked the Row

The controversy began during The Hundred 2026 auction held on March 12, when SunRisers Leeds bought Abrar Ahmed for £190,000 (approximately ₹2.3 crore).

The franchise reportedly outbid teams like Trent Rockets to secure the mystery spinner. The signing drew attention because it is rare for an Indian-owned or Indian-linked franchise to sign a Pakistani player in recent years.

Sunil Gavaskar Raises the Question of National Responsibility

While speaking about the issue, Sunil Gavaskar emphasised that Indian franchise owners should remain mindful of national sentiment when making such decisions.

According to him, cricket cannot be completely isolated from geopolitical realities, especially when India and Pakistan share a complex political history. He argued that even if a league operates on merit-based auctions, team owners must consider the broader implications of their financial choices.

The Larger Context of India–Pakistan Cricket

Cricket ties between India and Pakistan have remained limited for years. Pakistani players have not participated in the Indian Premier League since the early seasons of the tournament following the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

In the viral video, some employees of the Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital’s pathology department could be seen partying with alcohol glasses out in day broad daylight during duty hours.

In the video, a lab technician and some staff members could be seen enjoying alcohol consumption. Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. RS Ram has now ordered an investigation.

The pathology department conducts blood tests for patients visiting the emergency and OPD departments. Additionally, samples for several essential blood tests of pregnant women coming to the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) wing for comprehensive maternal, new-born, reproductive, and child and adolescent health are also processed at the facility. The same room where alcohol was being served openly houses the testing machines.

A few months back, a video of lab technicians and other staff from the same hospital were seen dancing to Bhojpuri songs with staff nurses. In the dance case, only those whose faces were visible in the video received warnings, but no concrete action was taken. Now, once again, a video of pathology staff drinking alcohol has gone viral. It remains to be seen what action will be taken this time.

      Social Media Reactions

A user commented, “Shocking scenes from Varanasi – allegations of hospital staff drinking inside a pathology lab raise serious concerns about professionalism and patient trust.” Another commented, “Patients rely on doctors and staff with their lives, so they should not drink in the hospital.” A social media user commented, “Hospitals are for treatment, not partying. Strict action must be taken against those responsible.”

Another user commented, “Because of such people the reputation of the entire system gets tarnished.” A user said, “OPD = One Peg Down.”

Officials also seized ₹10,400 believed to be drug money during the raids. The operations were conducted at multiple locations across Punjab as part of the sustained campaign against drug trafficking.

Anurag Dhanda: AAP Targets BJP Over Yamuna Pollution Claims in Delhi

The political row over the condition of the Yamuna river intensified after Aam Aadmi Party leader Anurag Dhanda accused the BJP of misleading the public regarding the river’s cleanliness.

Anurag Dhanda: AAP Targets BJP Over Yamuna Pollution Claims in Delhi

In a post on social media, Dhanda alleged that BJP leaders were making exaggerated claims about improvements in the Yamuna’s condition. He compared two visuals of the river—one from October 16, 2025, which he said was being used to project a clear Yamuna along with BJP leader Rekha Gupta, and another from March 16, 2026, which he claimed shows the river covered with foam and pollution.

He further alleged that despite repeated promises

Targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP, Dhanda said the ground reality of the river contradicts the claims being made by party leaders. He questioned how long the BJP would continue to “mislead” people on the issue.

He further alleged that despite repeated promises and announcements, visible improvement in the condition of the Yamuna River has not been achieved. According to him, the situation highlights the gap between political statements and the actual environmental condition on the ground.

The Yamuna river has long been a major environmental and political issue in Delhi, with multiple governments promising large-scale cleaning drives over the years. Pollution levels in the river, particularly in the Delhi stretch, have remained a matter of concern for environmentalists and policymakers.

Experts have often pointed out that untreated sewage, industrial discharge and urban waste are among the major factors contributing to the pollution of the river. Several action plans and projects have been launched by both central and state governments in the past to address the issue.

Political exchanges over the river’s condition frequently surface between rival parties, especially during elections or policy announcements related to environmental management and urban infrastructure, making the Yamuna’s condition both an ecological and political debate in the national capital.

Punjab Expands Canal Water Use to Over 70% in Four Years: CM Bhagwant Mann

Highlighting the achievements of the state government over the past four years, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said significant steps have been taken to boost the use of canal water for agriculture across the state.

Punjab Expands Canal Water Use to Over 70% in Four Years: CM Bhagwant Mann

According to the government, when the administration took office, the utilisation of canal water in Punjab stood at around 21 percent. Through sustained efforts over the last four years, the usage has now increased to more than 70 percent, marking a major shift in irrigation practices.

      Officials said large-scale cleaning

The state government also invested around ₹5,700 crore to strengthen irrigation infrastructure. As a result, canal water access has now been ensured to nearly 78 percent of agricultural land in the state.

Officials said large-scale cleaning and restoration work was undertaken to improve water flow in the canal network. A total of 15,539 canals were cleaned and 18,349 canal channels were made operational to ensure that water reaches tail-end areas as well.

The Chief Minister said the initiative has helped farmers receive a more reliable and affordable source of irrigation water. Increased canal water usage is expected to reduce farmers’ dependence on tube wells and help conserve rapidly depleting groundwater levels in the state.

The government also stated that strengthening the canal irrigation system will improve agricultural productivity and ensure equitable distribution of water across regions. Special focus has been placed on ensuring that tail-end villages, which earlier faced water shortages, now receive adequate canal water supply.

According to the state administration, the reforms in irrigation infrastructure are part of broader efforts to modernise agriculture in Punjab while making farming more sustainable and cost-effective for farmers. Officials said continued investments and maintenance of canals will remain a priority in the coming years to further expand irrigation coverage across the state.
