Beyond The Boardroom: Vaibhav Maloo On Why Cricket Still Inspires His Leadership Style

For many Indians, cricket is more than just a sport. It is an emotion that brings together millions of fans across cities, cultures, and generations. For entrepreneurs and business leaders, it often becomes a reminder of the values that shape leadership: patience, strategy, teamwork, and resilience.

For Vaibhav Maloo, cricket has always been more than casual entertainment. The sport continues to influence how he approaches competition, teamwork, and long-term thinking in business.

A passionate follower of the game, Maloo believes that the lessons of cricket often mirror the realities of entrepreneurship.

Vaibhav Maloo-A Lifelong Love For The Game

Like many Indian fans, Maloo grew up watching cricket matches that became defining cultural moments. From tense run chases to dramatic last-over finishes, the game has always offered more than just excitement.

“Cricket teaches you patience in a way few other things do,” he says. “A match can change in a single over, but winning consistently requires discipline and long-term focus.”

For Maloo, that mindset carries directly into the world of business, where results rarely appear overnight.

Lessons From The Pitch

Cricket’s unpredictability is one of the reasons the sport continues to fascinate millions of fans.

Maloo believes that unpredictability is also one of the defining realities of entrepreneurship.

“In cricket, even the best teams cannot control every moment of the game,” he explains. “What they can control is preparation, teamwork, and how they respond to pressure. Business works in a very similar way.”

He often points to the importance of adaptability, a quality shared by both great cricket teams and successful companies.

“A good team adjusts to changing conditions. Whether it’s the pitch, the opposition, or the pressure of the moment, flexibility makes the difference between good teams and great ones.”

The Importance Of Team Spirit

Beyond individual performances, cricket remains a deeply team-oriented sport.

For Maloo, that philosophy carries into his leadership approach at Enso Webworks, where collaboration across teams is essential for building digital platforms and scaling new ideas.

“No captain wins a match alone,” he says. “The strength of a team lies in how people support each other, especially in difficult moments.”

He believes that the same principle applies to entrepreneurship, where success depends on trust, coordination, and collective effort.

Sport, Balance And Perspective

For business leaders managing demanding schedules, following sports can also offer a valuable mental reset.

Maloo sees cricket as a way to step back from the intensity of daily business decisions and reconnect with a sense of perspective.

“Sports remind you that competition can also be enjoyable,” he says. “There is passion, there is rivalry, but there is also respect for the game and the people who play it.”

That balance between intensity and enjoyment, he believes, is something every leader can benefit from.

A Fan At Heart

Despite his growing responsibilities in business and technology, Maloo remains, at heart, what millions of Indians proudly call themselves: a cricket fan.

Whether watching a match in a stadium filled with cheering supporters or following games from afar, the sport continues to provide moments of excitement and inspiration.

“Cricket has an incredible ability to bring people together,” he says. “No matter where you are, when the game is on, the energy is contagious.”

For leaders like Vaibhav Maloo, those moments are more than just entertainment. They are reminders that passion, teamwork, and resilience often make the biggest difference both on the pitch and beyond it.

Why Alcohol Is Basically A Brain Attack? Lifestyle Medicine Diplomat Weighs In

Alcohol

Alcohol: Imagine your brain as a bustling city with neurotransmitters such as dopamine helping you zip along highways. Now picture alcohol as an unforeseeable barrier that makes you smash through to leave you in complete chaos – that’s something you don’t want for sure!

Several scientific studies have suggested that chronic alcohol use could quickly become a form of self-inflicted brain attack. It could easily hijack your brain’s reward system to cripple your inhibitory reflex, putting you into depression to trap you in a vicious cycle of craving more.

The Dopamine High With Alcohol

Alcohol doesn’t just make you feel good, it also trigger a massive surge in dopamine levels. When you sip a small quantity of it for the first time or the first drink of the day, it ends up blocking dopamine reuptake to create euphoria. In other words, you end up feeling like you’ve just hit the jackpot on a slot machine.

Now comes the worrying part! This “so-called high” is short-lived and artificial in nature. Your dopamine levels would crash hard for sure afterward, which would leave you lower than baseline. To chase the same buzz, you would have to consume more of it with every passing day, setting up the addiction’s gateway.

Disturbing The Inhibitory Reflex

The second strike targets the prefrontal cortex to suppress GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) that is your body’s primary inhibitory neurotransmitter. This could be perceived as traffic cops that keep risky behaviours in check. Once you start pouring more and more alcohol into your body, these traffic cops start going blurry and useless, resulting in blackouts, poor decisions and slurred speech.

The Depression Crash

Post-high, alcohol-induced depression emerges. Alcohol depletes serotonin and the natural production of dopamine. This results in anxiety, joylessness and fatigue. It could then easily translate to regular and difficult struggles with everyday pleasures. Coffee? Cold drinks? Gym workouts? All of them feel irrelevant, not joyful and useless.

The Vicious Cycle

Depression breeds craving and your brain shouts for alcohol as the quick fix.

How To Reclaim Your Brain?

Before anything else, you need to realize that alcohol was never a “harmless fun”. Awareness and acceptance are steps 1 and 2. To get rid of dependence, you need to choose alternatives such as exercise (natural dopamine via endorphins) or meditation rebuild receptors. If hooked heavily on alcohol, your doctor may recommend Naltrexone that could blunt alcohol cravings, while therapy could help rewire habits.

Seek immediate medical attention before things go from bad to worse.

In a social media post, Dhanda alleged that the role of the Election Commission is to conduct elections impartially between political parties, but claimed that the Chief Election Commissioner was behaving like a political leader.

He stated that such scenes are rarely seen in a democratic country, referring to the reported protests against the CEC outside the temple in Kolkata.

Can Strength Training Slash Breast Cancer Risk? Surgical Oncology Expert Breaks It Down

Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer: Breast Cancer is the second most common form of cancer among women across the globe. Emerging research suggests that strength training could prove out to be a wonderful option to reduce the risk of breast carcinoma (cancer). Several medical experts suggest that women, especially those who are at an increased risk of developing breast cancer, should engage themselves in strength training from early adulthood to cut down the risk of this severe, debilitating disease.

The Science Behind Strength Training and Breast Cancer Prevention

Several studies have demonstrated that the risk of breast cancer could be significantly reduced through moderate to vigorous physical activity. A study published in PubMed last year revealed that girls and women (in the age group of 15-24) who regularly engage in resistance training had a 52 percent lower risk of developing breast cancer when compared to girls and women who engaged in no form of strength training.

Experts emphasize that it’s never too late or little to begin as physical activity before and after diagnosis could significantly reduce recurrence and mortality rates.

How Strength Training Protects Against Breast Cancer?

According to many oncologists, muscles tend to release anti-cancer molecules to combat tumour development when they are activated during strength training.

This could be beneficial in many ways, including but not limited to:

  • Strength training could help in balancing insulin and estrogen levels, both of which are associated with the risk of breast carcinoma when elevated.
  • Immune surveillance gets enhanced by regular physical activity; this is helpful for your body to precisely identify and destroy abnormal cells.
  • Muscle Mass achieved through strength training could be helpful to improve metabolic rate that helps prevent obesity, which could be a big risk factor for postmenopausal breast carcinoma.

What The Experts Recommend?

Ideally, you should engage in at least 150 minutes of strength training every week, incorporating both resistance training and aerobic exercise.

The best thing is that you don’t have to spend a fortune on a gym membership or expensive equipment. You could perform simple bodyweight exercises such as squats, lunges, planks or push-ups at home or any other convenient location. You could even add free weights and resistance bands as you progress.

If you’re a beginner, you should ideally start with 2 days per week of strength training focusing on primary muscle groups (chest, shoulders, arms, legs, back and core). Perform 2-3 sets of 8-12 repetitions per exercise and make sure to give sufficient rest of close to 40-48 hours before working the same muscle groups. Gradually increase weight or resistance as you build strength.
