During the interaction, the Chief Minister also assured the attendees that the government is committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in administration. He emphasised that every complaint should be addressed in a time-bound manner.

Officials from various government departments were present at the programme to immediately take note of the complaints and initiate necessary action. The Chief Minister also instructed them to maintain continuous follow-up until the issues are fully resolved.

The government led by Bhagwant Mann in Punjab has intensified its campaign against drugs, with Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema presenting detailed statistics of the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ (War Against Drugs) campaign in the state Assembly.

According to Cheema, the data covers the period from March 1, 2025, to February 28, 2026, highlighting the actions taken by law enforcement agencies to curb drug trafficking and substance abuse across Punjab.

Minister Harpal Singh Cheema Presents One-Year Data

During this period, authorities registered 36,178 FIRs and arrested 47,902 accused persons in connection with narcotics-related cases. The minister said the crackdown specifically targeted major suppliers and trafficking networks operating in the state.

The data revealed that 3,036 major suppliers and 3,173 individuals involved in distributing narcotics were apprehended during the campaign. In addition, 429 major smugglers were arrested, taking the total number of drug traffickers arrested to 45,398.

Law enforcement agencies also managed to arrest 636 absconders who had been evading authorities in drug-related cases. Furthermore, 65 major hawala operators allegedly linked to drug trafficking networks were also taken into custody.

Authorities reported significant seizures of narcotics during the operations. These included 2,276 kilograms of heroin, 20 tonnes and 686 kilograms of opium, 786 kilograms of ganja, 68 kilograms of charas, and 36 kilograms of “ice” (methamphetamine).

Officials also seized around ₹17 crore in suspected drug money, which authorities believe was generated through illegal narcotics trade.

Cheema further stated that the conviction rate in NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) cases in Punjab stands at 89 percent, which he claimed is the highest in the country.

The minister said the state government remains committed to continuing strict enforcement, strengthening investigations and expanding rehabilitation efforts as part of its broader strategy to combat the drug problem in Punjab.

A fire broke out near house of the actress who has starred in movies like the Salman Khan starrer Jai ho. Daisy had then shared the incident video and slammed members of the political party that was campaigning in the area and burning firecrackers that caused the fire.

Recently, Daisy attended an Iftar party at a restaurant and cooked malpua (traditional Indian festive pancakes).

A social media user blasted Daisy Shah by comparing the fire incident to the Iftar party. The netizen had commented, “Meet Daisy Shah >She has a problem with firecrackers. But She visits Iftaar parties and cooks there as well (sic).”

Replying to the netizen, Daisy wrote, “Fire Crackers and cooking food are completely different from each other. Good luck with spreading hate in the name of religion. I hope you get well soon (sic).”

A social media user commented, “it is not about crackers or cooking. It is about giving unnecessary lectures only during Hindu festivals for a celebrity like you. If you have the courage, say something about animal brutality during Bakra Eid as well.” Another user commented, “Interesting how lectures on ‘environment’ and ‘hate’ appear only during Diwali or Holi. But when animals are slaughtered publicly during festivals, suddenly everyone becomes silent. Selective outrage isn’t morality it’s hypocrisy.”

Another user wrote, “Your iftar food kills animals. So firecrackers scare animals, but iftar which kills animals is fine.” A social user media user commented, “Killing animal in the name of faith on the time of Eid? I think you need to get well soon.”

Interestingly, an Iftar party does not strictly require meat consumption; the specific inclusion of meat is a cultural preference rather than a religious obligation.

US Israel Iran War: In the wake of the Middle East crisis, oil prices have spiked to approximately $115 a barrel before they fell back slightly. The joint operations of Israel and the United States against the Islamic Republic of Iran have threatened the production, shipping, distribution and processing of crude oil.

Iran Blocks Strait Of Hormuz

The Iranian regime has been attacking oil fields in countries of the Middle East while restricting the movements of oil tankers across the Strait of Hormuz. Approximately 15 million barrels of crude oil that is close to 20 percent of the world’s oil is usually shipped on a daily basis via the Strait of Hormuz, as per independent research firm Rystad Energy.

Several countries in the Middle East such as the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Iraq have decided to cut their oil production as storage tanks have filled because of the reduced capability to export crude. Meanwhile, Qatar’s energy minister Saad al-Kaabi remarked that the conflict in the Middle East could “bring down world economies.”  This would put world economies such as India under a state of inflation as its oil import bills could surge up significantly. This would translate to an increase in price of almost every product, adding to monetary pressure, income disparities and a dropdown in gross domestic product.

Iran and Israel have been attacking oil depots while the United States has vehemently denied any role in attacking oil depots across the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The annual pilgrimage is scheduled to begin on April 19, while the doors of the sacred Kedarnath Temple will open for devotees on April 22. Officials from the tourism department have already started the registration process for pilgrims planning to undertake the journey.

Online Booking for Kedarnath Temple Helicopter Service Likely in Early April

According to officials, the Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA) will soon select aviation companies that will operate the helicopter services for the Kedarnath route during the pilgrimage season.

Helicopter services remain one of the most popular travel options for pilgrims visiting Kedarnath, especially for elderly devotees and those with limited time. Every year, thousands of pilgrims opt for this facility due to the challenging terrain and long trekking route.

The helicopter operations are conducted from nine helipads located in Guptkashi, Sirsi and Phata, which serve as the main base points for flights to Kedarnath.

Authorities said strict compliance with safety guidelines issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will be ensured during helicopter operations to maintain passenger safety.

Officials also stated that live monitoring of helicopters operating in the Kedarnath valley will be carried out to ensure safe and smooth flight operations throughout the pilgrimage period.

The state government is also strengthening arrangements such as medical facilities, disaster management teams, traffic control and accommodation services to manage the expected influx of pilgrims during the yatra season.

Officials said improved infrastructure, better crowd management and digital registration systems are being implemented this year to ensure a safe, smooth and well-organised pilgrimage experience for devotees.

With preparations progressing rapidly, authorities expect a large number of pilgrims to participate in this year’s Char Dham Yatra, one of the most significant religious pilgrimages in India.
