Thiruvananthapuram: Investigators are claiming that the smugglers have link between the Popular Front of India (PFI), a Kerala-based suspected radical organisation. The alleged gold smuggling racket busted in the state this month.
The smuggled gold may have been used to fund “anti-national” terror activities by the PFI . National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) are also claiming that the money may have been used to fund against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protester that happened across India. The CAA law was passed in December 2019.
However the PFI has denied the allegations.
“There is a possibility that there is a PFI link here (in the gold smuggling case), which is being explored. It is suspected that the gold smuggling proceeds were being pumped in for anti-national activities by the PFI,” said a source in the security establishment.
“We are analysing the details of the PFI’s bank accounts to establish a trail,”.
“It was initially found that the PFI pumped in money to fund anti-CAA protests. It is a possibility that it was money sent to the PFI through this smuggling route,”the source added.

Reliance Brands, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries (RIL), has obtained the stake of Ronnie Screwvala-owned Unilazer Ventures in online lingerie retailer Zivame and is reportedly in conversation with other partners to take 100% control of the company.
Zivame was established by Richa Kar in 2011 and the famous shopping website has a valuation of $200 million and its revenue for FY19 stood at ₹140 crore.
People close to the development said Reliance Brands, which sells several premium and luxury labels such as Jimmy Choo, Tiffany, Diesel and Mothercare in India, could pay up to $160 million – or about Rs 1,200 crore – for acquiring Zivame. US President Donald Trump has once again said that use of malaria drug hydroxychloroquine is effective in the treatmen of novel coronavirus, contradicting his own public officials.
A week after pitching serious tone for the fight against the virus that has claimed hundred of thousands lives, Trump is again back to pushing unproven claims while arguing that malaria medication was only rejected as a potential covid-19 treatment because he had suggested it.
Health experts, meanwhile, keep emphasising that the drug, hydroxychloroquine, is not an effective treatment for the deadly virus. Additionally, U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently withdrew an order than allowed its use as an emergency treatment for Covid-19. The World Health Organization (WHO) also said, “there is currently no proof” that it is effective as a treatment to cure the virus.
Amid this, the US president’s remarks have received much flak from one and all.
Trump’s remarks come after Twitter banned his eldest son for posting a clip touting hydroxychloroquine. He even went on to saying that he had begun taking the unproven medication to halt the virus.
“I’ve been taking it. A lot of good things have come out. You’d be surprised at how many people are taking it, especially the front-line workers. Before you catch it. The front-line workers, many, many are taking it,” Trump told the reporters at the White House.
“I can only say that from my standpoint, and based on a lot of reading and a lot of knowledge about it, I think it could have a very positive impact in the early stages. I don’t think you lose anything by doing it, other than politically it doesn’t seem too popular,” he added.
Hydroxychloroquine was first touted as a potential drug by Trump in relation to covid in March. The drug also often used by doctors to treat rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. Numerous clinical trials are looking to see if it’s effective in fighting the coronavirus, but it is not a proven treatment yet.

China on Tuesday suspended Hong Kong’s extradition treaties with Canada, Australia and Britain in response to the similar decision made by those countries.
the three countries had announced the suspension of extradition treaties with Hong Kong this month after China introduced a new controversial security law.
“The wrong action of Canada, Australia and the UK in politicising judicial cooperation with Hong Kong has seriously hurt the judicial cooperation,” Hong Kong Free Press quoted Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin as saying.
“China has decided to suspend extradition treaties between Hong Kong and Canda, Australia and the UK, as well as criminal justice cooperation agreement.”he added.
Taking China’s newly enacted national security law for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region as an excuse, Canada, Australia and the UK unilaterally announced the suspension of their extradition treaties signed with Hong Kong, which has grossly interfered in China’s internal affairs and seriously violated international law and basic norms governing international relations,” Mr Wang said.
Western nation are angry over China’s implementation of new security law in Hong Kong’s security law that criminalizes many forms of political dissent.
Canada, Australia and Britain are part of the ‘Five Eyes’ intelligence alliance including New Zealand and the United States. While New Zealand has suspended the treaty with Hong Kong on Tuesday, the US has signalled that it is preparing to do the same.
Britain suspended its extradition treaty last week, saying the security law had “significantly changed key assumptions” fearing the new law gives China sweeping powers which can be a threat to basic freedom of former British colony.
Meanwhile, China has defended the security law as crucial to restoring order in Hong Kong following severity of he pre-democracy protests back since last year.
Realising his mistake, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s eldest son Yair has apologised to Hindus after he confronted flak from some Indians who found one of his tweets to be “quite offensive”.
Yair Netanyahu, 29, had on Sunday posted an image of Hindu goddess Durga, with the face of the prosecutor in his father’s conspiracy litigations superimposed on it. Later he deleted the post from his official Twitter handle.
“I’ve tweeted a meme from a satirical page, criticising political figures in Israel. I didn’t realise the meme also portrayed an image connected to the majestic Hindu faith. As soon as I realised it from comments of our Indian friends, I have removed the tweet. I apologise,” Yair said in a tweet.

Attorney General Avichai Mandelbit’s face was superimposed over that of a tiger accompanying the goddess under a caption that said, “know your place, you despicable people”, as per the tweet.
The prime minister has made sustaining Israel’s ties with India, and his close connection to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, one of his crucial foreign policy goals and he would have been anxious not to have his diplomatic efforts upended by his son, who has a long record of prompting controversies on social media.
Netanyahu has frequently provoked controversy in current years with his social media posts.
