UK government introduces new rule; face covering now necessary at shops and supermarkets

The UK government has issued its full guidance on mandatory face masks, including shops and markets in England.

Facemasks were already mandatory on public transport and in hospitals, and the new rule includes transport hubs such as train stations and airports – in England. The guidemlines were released on Friday as a part of the next stage guidance to control the spread of coronavirus in UK.

As per the new regulations, it has been mandanted for the memebers of public to cover their faces with fabric such as scarf or bandana that cover nose and mouth in closed spaces.

It is necessary to cover face while buying food and drinks to takeaway from restaurants and cafes.

“If you are in a premises where you are able to sit down and consume food or drink that you have bought, then you can remove your face covering in order to eat and drink on site, ” said the UK Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC).

A fine of £ 100 for not complying will be charges, however, certain groups are exepmted, including children under 11 with a disability or certain health conditions for whom wearing masks can be harmful. The rule does not apply to retail staff.

The rule also isn’t applicable for hospitality setting, visitor attrcations like musemus, and exercise or sports centres such as gyms.

Face coverings may reduce the likelihood of someone with the infection passing it on others, particularly if they are asymptomaic, the DHSC said.

“As we move into the next stage of easing restriction for the public, it is vital we continue for the public, it is vital we continue to shop safely so that we can make the most of our fanstastic retail industry this summer,” said UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock.

“Everyone must play their part in fighting this virus by following new guidance. I also want to thank the British public fpr all the sacrifices they are making to help this country safe,” he aded.

The UK government has said that wearing a face covering ins not itended to help wearer but ‘to protect against inadvertent transmission of the disease to others if you have ot asymptomatically’.

While social distancing and handwashing ramain the key factors to curb the novel virus, face covering will prevent the spread at places where social distancing isn’t achievable.

More than 297,900 people have tested positive and 45,677 have lost their lives to the virus in UK.

Stokes is undecided for bowling in the second test match

Stokes’ heroics carried England to a 113-run victory which levelled the series at 1-1 but left him with a quadriceps injury.

“It’s going to be a day-by-day thing to see (whether I can bowl). Yesterday I tested out my quad and I was a little bit worried I wouldn’t be able to offer everything that I possibly could with the ball, especially in the first innings,” he told Sky television before play started. The tourists put England into bat after winning the toss.

“But hopefully as the game goes on, and it settles down, I might be able to rock ‘n roll some off-spin if needed!,” he joked.

Every year on Independence Day, the Prime Minister of India addresses to the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort Delhi. It is one of the most awaited national events of the country. The event, along with patriotic significance, holds cultural values as well.

While, Prime Minister Narendra will continue the tradition this year too, Red fort will reflect a different light of a nation in the middle of a global pandemic.

According to media reports, number of invitees for the Independence Day celebration at Red Fort have been cut to 250 from the usual figure of 1,000.

According to a report published in The Indian Express, the Independence Day celebrations will witness a different mood as “No schoolchildren, a pared-down list of dignitaries, chairs instead of rugs for seating in several areas and police in PPE” will be seen at the Red Fort.

“At the Red Fort, instead of the 900-1,000 invitees every year, around 250 people will be present as the Prime Minister addresses the nation,” an official with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) told The Indian Express.

Presence of schoolchildren at the event has always been an integral part of the Independence Day ceremony. Every year, children from different part of the country gather wearing colours of the tricolor and sing the national anthem at the end of the prime minister’s address.

“This year, children will not take part due to the pandemic, except for NCC cadets. Social distancing will be maintained, staff will be in PPE kits, and there will be a number of sanitisation points,” The Indian Express quoted a source as saying.

Apart from this, it has been speculated that the government is planning to honour corona warriors for their contribution amid the pandemic on Independence Day.

Meanwhile, the preparations have been started at the Red Fort. The fort will be shut for public viewing from August 1 to August 7.

IAF, strengthening the combat aircraft by fitting out it with HAMMER missiles

Rafale fighter jets will soon be introduced in Indian Air Force. This is sure to give Indian firepower a major upswing. Rafale fighter jets will introduce new abilities in IAF’s fighter fleets.

The Indian Air Force is further strengthening the capabilities of the combat aircraft by fitting out it with the HAMMER missiles from France.

“The order for the HAMMER missiles is being processed and the French authorities have agreed to supply them to us at a short notice for our Rafale combat aircraft,” government sources told ANI.

Armement Air-Sol Modulaire (AASM) HAMMER (Highly Agile Modular Munition Extended Range) is a new generation medium-range modular air-to-ground weapon designed and manufactured by Sagem (Safran group), for the French Air Force and Navy.

This would give India the ability to take out any bunkers or hardened shelters in any kind of landscape comprising mountainous locations like Eastern Ladakh, where a tense standoff is on between India and China.

The report stated that in view of the “urgent requirement” for these missiles by the Air Force, the French authorities would be “delivering the systems to India from the existing stock meant for some other customer”.

Under emergency powers granted by the Central Government for immediate procurement to the Armed Forces, an airborne surface-to-surface Hammer missile is being ordered to hit targets of up to 60-70 km.

Government grant formal Sanction letter for Permanent Commission of women officers in the Indian Army

Women officers in the Indian Army will  be eligible to play broader roles with the grant of Permanent Commission (PC) for women in the armed forces by the Centre, on 23 July.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has given the formal Government Sanction Letter for grant of Permanent Commission (PC) to women officers in the Army.

Women officers first joined the Indian Army in 1992 as part of the boosting gender sensitivity of the times. The terms and conditions at that time were clear. It was a Short Service Commission (SSC) for five years; later it was lengthened to 10 and yet again to 14. They could receive permanent commission in only two departments.

The order specifies the grant of PC to SSC women officers in all the 10 streams of the Army in which they presently serve — the Army Air Defence (AAD), Signals, Engineers, Army Aviation, Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME), Army Service Corps (ASC), Army Ordnance Corps (AOC), and Intelligence Corps in addition to the existing streams of Judge and Advocate General (JAG) and the Army Educational Corps (AEC), Army spokesperson Colonel Aman Anand said.

Women have so far been allowed Permanent commission in only the Judge Advocate General (JAG) and Army Educational Corps (AEC).

“In anticipation, the Army HQ had already set in motion a series of preparatory actions for the conduct of the PC selection board for eligible women officers. The board will be scheduled as soon as all eligible women SSC officers exercise their option and complete requisite documentation,” said an Army officer on Thursday.

In September 2019, the Ministry of Defence improved one anomaly based upon a judgment, by accepting that from April 2020 women officers will be capable for permanent commission but only those commissioned from 2014 onwards will be eligible for the same.

The 10,000-bed COVID care centre at the Radha Soami Satsang Beas, which was established earlier this month by Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal, has been set up in Chhatarpur for treating mild and asymptomatic coronavirus patients.

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) is the nodal agency regulating the centre, which also serves as a treatment centre for those who are asymptomatic but cannot afford home isolation.

According to the police, in her complaint, the girl alleged that she was sexually assaulted by the man. She also accused the man’s associate of capturing the act of sexual assault on a mobile phone.

Police told The Indian Express newspaper that “The accused have been arrested and sent to judicial custody but will remain in institutional care until they recover from the infection,” senior official Parvinder Singh.
