MEA Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava also said Pakistan adopted a “farcical approach” in handling the case, adding India is exploring available options in the matter.

MEA spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said during a weekly briefing that “Pakistan has blocked all avenues for effective remedy available to India. It stands in violation of ICJ judgement and its own Ordinance. India reserves its position including the right to avail of further remedies,”.

Independence day: large gathering should be avoided, plea from centre

The Centre has pleaded all states to resist large gathering of people while celebrating the Independence Day amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Unlike previous years, the Independence Day events, including the main ceremony at the Red Fort in Delhi, this time will be celebrated under specific preventive measures like maintaining social distancing, wearing of masks, proper sanitisation and avoiding large congregations, as necessitated by the Covid-19 crisis.

The ministry said it would be appropriate that the theme of ‘Aatma Nirbhar Bharat’, announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a self-reliant India, was suitably spread and publicised through various activities and messages in the functions and on social media during the Independence Day celebrations.

In an advisory, the home ministry said Covid-19 warriors like doctors, health and sanitation workers should be invited in the ceremony as a recognition of their noble service in the fight against the pandemic.

“Therefore, all programmes should be organized in a way that large congregation of people is avoided and technology is used in a best possible manner for celebration befitting the occasion,” the advisory said.

It said some people who recovered from the infection might also be invited.

The events organised could be webcast in order to reach out people at large, who are not able to participate, it said.

China instructed US to close Consulate at Chengdu

China instructed the United States on Friday to close its consulate in the western city of Chengdu, ratcheting up a tactful conflict at a time when relations have sunk to their lowest level in decades.

Beijing accused the Trump administration of the breakdown in relations, calling its own action justified after Washington notified China this week to shutter its consulate in Houston and accused its diplomats of acting illegally.

A Chinese official, in turn, denounced American diplomats in Chengdu, a southwestern city, for interfering in China’s affairs.

The Trump administration on Tuesday instructed the Houston consulate closed within 72 hours.

Analysts on both sides say bilateral relations are at their awful since 1972, when President Richard M. Nixon began overtures to the People’s Republic of China, leading to the start of formal diplomatic relations in 1979.

Today, China is increasingly authoritarian at home, and more aggressive in its hostility to freedom everywhere else,” Mr Pompeo said.

China has given the US until Monday to close the consulate in Chengdu, according to the editor of China’s Global Times.

Sanjana Sanghi responds to Kangana Ranaut’s claims of late response to Me Too allegations against Sushant Singh Rajput

Actor Sanjana Sanghi has reacted to Team Kangana Ranaut’s recent allegations against her. In a latest tweet, Kangana’s official team has asked “Why Sanjana took her own sweet time to clarify” alleged harassment rumour against Sushant Singh Rajput .

Responding to the claim, the Dil Bechara actress said that ‘nobody has the authority’ to judge if her response was fast enough or not. “I have said more than enough about what happened. Also, I’ve given a clarification which should have been enough. At that time, it wasn’t late, nobody is in authority to decide what’s late and what’s not. You don’t fuel rumours. It is not the responsibility or job to clarify rumours,” she said in an interview to Zoom TV.

Further, she added that it was wrong to make it a part of bandwagon and term the incident as a ‘Me Too’ case as both Sushant and her had denied all claims of any harassment. “I am a student of journalism, I’ve studied at Delhi University and that’s not the journalism I was taught. So, I don’t see it as the Me Too movement. For me, apparently getting late in giving clarification for rumours, but I did it still because it was important for us, Sushant and me,” she said.

Earlier this tweet, Kangana Ranaut’s team had written on Twitter, “Many blinds claimed tht Sushant raped Sanjana, such news abt her harassment wr common in those days,Why Sanjana took her own sweet time to clarify? Why she nvr spoke so passionately abt her friendship with him when he ws alive? @mumbaipolice cn investigate.”

Back in 2018, Sanjana has refuted alleged rumours of harassment, clearing the air, she had written: “On returning from a long trip to the US yesterday, I read several baseless and unfounded stories with respect to misconduct and misbehaviour on the sets of our film Kizie Aur Manny. I’d like to clarify that no such incident took place with me. Let’s put an end to these conjectures.

Sushant had also shared screenshots of his conversations with Sanjana and denied the rumours on the sets of their film. “I feel sad to reveal personal information but it seems that there is no other way to state what actually happened, in the midst of this curated, well-timed and agenda-driven smear campaign. From the first day of the shoot till the last day, this is what happened on the sets with Sanjana. Misconduct? Not at all. Agenda? You decide,” he had written in an Instagram post.

UK government introduces new rule; face covering now necessary at shops and supermarkets

The UK government has issued its full guidance on mandatory face masks, including shops and markets in England.

Facemasks were already mandatory on public transport and in hospitals, and the new rule includes transport hubs such as train stations and airports – in England. The guidemlines were released on Friday as a part of the next stage guidance to control the spread of coronavirus in UK.

It is necessary to cover face while buying food and drinks to takeaway from restaurants and cafes.

“If you are in a premises where you are able to sit down and consume food or drink that you have bought, then you can remove your face covering in order to eat and drink on site, ” said the UK Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC).

A fine of £ 100 for not complying will be charges, however, certain groups are exepmted, including children under 11 with a disability or certain health conditions for whom wearing masks can be harmful. The rule does not apply to retail staff.

The rule also isn’t applicable for hospitality setting, visitor attrcations like musemus, and exercise or sports centres such as gyms.

Face coverings may reduce the likelihood of someone with the infection passing it on others, particularly if they are asymptomaic, the DHSC said.

“As we move into the next stage of easing restriction for the public, it is vital we continue for the public, it is vital we continue to shop safely so that we can make the most of our fanstastic retail industry this summer,” said UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock.

“Everyone must play their part in fighting this virus by following new guidance. I also want to thank the British public fpr all the sacrifices they are making to help this country safe,” he aded.

The UK government has said that wearing a face covering ins not itended to help wearer but ‘to protect against inadvertent transmission of the disease to others if you have ot asymptomatically’.

While social distancing and handwashing ramain the key factors to curb the novel virus, face covering will prevent the spread at places where social distancing isn’t achievable.

More than 297,900 people have tested positive and 45,677 have lost their lives to the virus in UK.
