South Australia imposes world’s strictest lockdown, only one family member allowed to step out

In what appears to be the world’s toughest lockdown, violators in South Australia were slapped with fines as soon as they stepped out of their homes. The one-week lockdown began on Thursday with even outdoor exercses and dog-walking restricted in an attempt to curb the cluster of recent covid-19 infections.

Earlier this week, 22 new infections related to covid-19 infection were identified which led to the imposition of the strictest lockdown in the state.

According to a dailymail.co.uk report, seven people were fined for $1080 infrinment notices after they violated the guidelines on Thursday night.

Two beach goers, who went out to seek sun as temperatures soared high to mid 30s, were also hit with the fine, the report said.

For six days, only one person per house is allowed to step out to buy essential goods. From school to universities to wedding and everything that make up for our daily activities is banned and mask wearing is mandatory.

State Premier Steven Marshall urged people to stay inside thier houses even as no new infection in the state was reported on Thursday.

“We want to go in early, we want to knock this on its head. We do not need 112 days of lockdown like they had in Victoria. This is six days and working together we can get on top of this,? Marshall said.

“It’s a real worry, especially because people who become infected are not showing the typical symptoms that we are used to,” he added.

While other countries announced the lockdown in stages, Australia was the first nation to impose a six-month long nationwide lockdown in March. Even then it was one of the world’s toughest lockdowns with strictest measures to mitigate the virus.

Thanks to hard lockdowns, Australian state Victoria, which reported over 700 infections daily in August, saw no infection on Thursday.

Meanwhile, in South Australia, there are 35 active cases as of know, including those who have been quarantined while 4,000 people are in isolation.

Rohit Sharma starts fitness training at NCA

Rohit Sharma, who was in the Indian Test team for the Australian tour, started his fitness training on Thursday at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Rohit is not part of India’s limited overs team for the Australian tour.

The selectors included Rohit Sharma in the revised Test squad after playing in two Indian Premier League (IPL) matches besides the final for Mumbai Indians.

Although Rohit Sharma said that he is fine, but the BCCI felt that he needed more time to recover from the hamstring injury suffered during the IPL, which started a debate about his fitness.

Mumbai’s team won a resounding victory in the final, in which Rohit played a fast-paced inning of 68 runs. Rohit’s fitness has become very important, as regular captain Virat Kohli will not be available after the first Test in Australia.

Chris Gayle took his name back from Lanka Premier League

Chris Gayle of the West Indies will not be seen playing in the Lanka Premier League (LPL). Gayle was to play in the team of Candy Tuskers along with Irfan Pathan, Munaf Patel, Kushal Perera, Kushal Mendis, Nuwan Pradeep and Liam Plunkett.

The option of Universe Boss has not been announced yet. Chris Gayle recently represented Kings XI Punjab in the 13th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Ponting: Indian Test team looks weak in absence of Virat Kohli

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting believes that the Indian team will not be sure about their batting order when the charismatic captain Virat Kohli returns home after the first Test against Australia. The Cricket Board of India (BCCI) has granted paternity leave to 32-year-old Kohli so that he can be with his wife during the birth of their first child.

“The one thing we haven’t spoken enough about is yes India were really good here last time, but with those guys (Smith and Warner) missing at the top of the order, that leaves a big gap in any team,” Ponting told cricket.com.au.

“India will feel that without Kohli there (for three Tests), for his batting and leadership, that will put all sorts of pressure on different players. You’d think (Ajinkya) Rahane will take over the captaincy, which will put extra pressure on him, and they’ve got to find someone to bat at that really important No.4 spot, “he added.

The Indian bowling attack will be led by Jaspreet Bumrah and Mohammed Shami. If Ishant Sharma recovers from an injury suffered during the Indian Premier League, India will give him a place in the team, while Umesh Yadav and Navdeep Saini are also part of India’s Test team.

Boycott Zomato: Food delivery giant receives major backlash from netizens for THIS reason

There hardly passes a day when Swara Bhasker isn’t a part of a Twitter trend and Thursday was no different. While Swara herself remains in trends often, this time one of her tweets pushed zomato into the trolling world.

Zomato, who itself is infamous of controversies, irked social media when the food delivery gianst responded to tweet by actor Swara Bhasker.

Swara had taken to Twitter to urge zomato to stop advertising its business on Republic TV, saying that she doesn’t want to be funding even indirectly to a channel who she said promotes “communal bigoted hate”.

Hey @zomatoin @zomato @deepigoyal I’m your regular customer.. do u plan to #DefundTheHate & pull your ads from hate espousing channels like @Republic_Bharat ? I’m not okay with my money even indirectly funding this kind of communal bigoted hate! Pls let your consumers know,” she had tweeted.

Replying to her, Zomato tried to separate itself from the institution and said, “Hi, Swara, please note, we don’t endorse any content except our own. That being said, we are looking into this.”

However, Zomato’s “looking into this” did not go down well with a section of netizens who started trolling the food delivery firm with the hashtag ‘boycott zomato’.

Zomato refrained from making any further comment into the matter.

This is not the first time when a brand has come under public eye. For the last two months, jewellery brand Tanishq has been at the center of trolls for its marketing campaigns and advertisements.
