Rafale conduct ‘familiarisation sorties’ amid border tension

The deployment of French-made Rafale jets in Ladakh came nearly 10 days after they were formally inducted into the IAF. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said the induction of the fleet was crucial considering the atmosphere being created along the frontier and that it is a “big and stern” message to those eyeing on India’s sovereignty.

Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria had said that the induction of Rafale jets could not have happened at a more opportune time considering the security scenario.

Indian Army is actively strengthening its security. Also the Indian Army is keeping an eye on every move of China. Rafale has been deployed now, but before that Mirage and Sukhoi fighter planes have been deployed.

Eight opposition members suspended from Rajya Sabha

Eight opposition members were suspended today from the Rajya Sabha for the rest of the session over the unprecedented chaos in the house during the passing of controversial farm bills on Sunday, but they refused to leave.

Their suspension was carried out because of their “unruly behaviour” especially with the Chair of the House “and gross disorderly conduct”.

Following the adjournment of House, MPs of opposition parties, including the suspended MPs, held a protest in front of Gandhi statue in the Parliament premises, against the suspension of eight MPs.

Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu also rejected a notice for no-confidence motion against deputy chairman Harivansh on the grounds that proper procedure was not followed.

The members, including Trinamool Congress’s Derek O’Brien, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s Sanjay Singh, Congress’s Rajeev Satav and CPM’s KK Ragesh, were told they had displayed “unruly behaviour especially with the Chair and gross disorderly conduct”.

According to the Opposition, the suspended members should be given a chance to explain what had happened the previous day, and called for a vote on the suspension. However, the Rajya Sabha said the decision had been taken on basis of a government.

“It was a bad day for Rajya Sabha yesterday when some members came to the well of the House. The deputy chairman was physically threatened. He was obstructed from doing his duty. This is unfortunate and condemnable and has brought disrepute to Rajya Sabha, which is also called the House of the Elders. I suggest to MPs, please do some introspection,” Naidu said in the House soon after Zero Hour was over.

Naidu’s announcement was followed by slogan-shouting by the opposition benches, forcing him to adjourn the House for an hour.

The two of the three bills passed on Sunday in Rajya Sabha – Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, and Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 – were cleared in Lok Sabha on September 17,  Thursday.

St. Clair Grimwood described Manipur as’ the most beautiful place in the world. The late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru expressed his reverence for this place in the most appropriate manner by calling it ‘the gem of India’. Manipur is bounded by Nagaland in the north, Mizoram in the south, Upper Myanmar in the east and Cachar district of Assam in the west.

After the first Anglo-Manipuri war in 1891, this state came under British rule. Many heroes sacrificed their lives in this war. Yuvraj Tekendrajit and General Thangal were hanged after the British captured Imphal.

After the independence of India in 1947, the Manipur Constitution Act was enacted, so that a democratic government could be formed in the state. Manipur received full statehood on 21 January 1972. Manipur has always been known by names like Mitalipak, Kanglepak and Maitrabak. Apart from these names, this state has also been known by twenty other names.

But let us tell you that Manipur became part of India on this day.

  1. Manipur Empire was a princely state during the British Raj. Which had an area of 21,900 square kilometers and 467 villages.
  2. In the year 1972, Manipur became a part of the Union of India.
  3. Manipur literally means land of gems.
  4. Maharaja Buddhachandra signed the document to meet India. Many people also call it forced merger.
  5. In the year 2012-13, due to insurgency, 1 death per 1 lakh population.

Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan releases guidelines for students

After a gap of nearly six months, the schools in the country are set to reopen partially from today.

The coronavirus pandemic forced authorities to shut educational institutes across the country to contain the spread of the deadly disease which has so far infected 54,00,620 people, according to the Union Health Ministry data.

As part of Unlock 4, the Centre had allowed the partial reopening of schools and said that students of Classes 9 and 12 can return purely on a voluntary basis.

Preparations for maintaining social distancing and facilities for sanitization are being done at the Kendriya Vidyalaya No 1 in Jammu, ahead of the scheduled reopening of schools on September 21, amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Government Ranbhir higher secondary school Principal Anjali Gupta said, “We have got instructions from the director school of education to open the school partially. “Accordingly, those students who are facing problems with online classes due to network problems, or those who don’t have android phones, so they must be given platform that they come to schools voluntarily to seek guidance from teachers,” she said.

With schools and colleges in the country are reopening today, many academicians feel that the move will bring much-needed relief to students who have been stuck at home for a long time due to the pandemic. Even as online classes have benefited a considerable number of students, especially from the elite private schools, many have struggled to adjust to this new stay-at-home lifestyle. Many educators said that the students are being affected physically as well as emotionally as they are not able to meet their friends and play outdoors now.

Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), which is a system of premier central government schools in India, has released the guidelines:

According to the guidelines, class 11 and 12 students will be allowed to visit the schools on Monday and Tuesday while class 10 students can come on Wednesday and Thursday. Class 9 students did not allow to visit their schools on Friday and Saturday.

It will be compulsory for the students to wear masks and use hand sanitizer, the guidelines stated, adding that no food or beverages will be provided in the campus.

“States and union territories (UTs) may permit up to 50 per cent of teaching and non- teaching staff to be called to the schools at a time for online teaching/ tele- counselling related work in areas outside containment zones only with effect from 21st September 2020,” the central government said in its Unlock 4.0 guidelines.

US Judge blocks Trump administration’s ban on WeChat

A Federal judge has blocked Trump administration’s executive order which enforced ban on downloads and operation of Chinese messaging app WeChat from Sunday midnight.

US Magistrate Judge Laurel Beeler said the the ban imposed a threat to the constitution’s first amendment which guarantees free speech.

WeChat, owned by Chinese firm Tencent, was set to stop operating in the U.S. on midnight Sunday following Trump’s order which cited the app was a threat to national security.

Beeler was referring to a lawsuit filed by WeChat users who questioned Trump’s actions with respect to the First Amendment Rights

“Certainly the government’s overarching national-security interest is significant,” Beeler wrote, but the Trump administration “has put in scant evidence that its effective ban of WeChat for all U.S. users addresses those concerns,” the judge wrote.

WeChat is used by 1.9 billion people around the globe and 19 million people in America. The app is a multipurpose platform providing communication, flight booking, news, and money transfer services among others. The app also serves as a virtual public square for the Chinese-speaking and Chinese-American community.

“WeChat is effectively the only means of communication for many in the community, not only because China bans other apps, but also because Chinese speakers with limited English proficiency have no options other than WeChat,” Beeler wrote in her order.

The lawsuit, filed by WeChat Users Alliance in America, pointed Trump’s statements wherein he mocked China over coronavirus pandemic, calling it the “China Virus” and “Kung Flu”.

The reprieve comes a day after Donald Trump saved TikTok, an app owned by Chinese firm ByteDance, and said that he has accepted TikTok-Oracle partnership deal in the US.

In her order, Beeler mentioned that there are certain signification evidence that some Chinese technologies which do pose a legitimate national security threat to the United States, however, asserted that WeChat is modest.
