I was done with domestic cricket, though I did want to continue to play in other domestic franchise-based leagues worldwide if I got permission from the BCCI.

“But I also couldn’t ignore Mr Bali’s request. I gave it a lot of thought, for nearly three or four weeks, and it was almost as if I didn’t even have to make a conscious decision in the end.”

“I know he has written a letter to BCCI president Sourav Ganguly wanting to come out of retirement,” he revealed.

“We want him in the team and the way he mentored four young boys Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, Prabh Simran Singh and Anmolpreet Singh was exceptional. I told him that please give at least one more year of your life to Punjab cricket,” he said.

“He is coming back (from Dubai) in a couple of days time and then we are going to have a long chat around all of this. Whatever you are hearing must be true,” Shabnam told PTI.

“He is a giver. In these times, in scorching heat, he trained Shubman, Prabh and Abhishek for five hours each day.

“The way he hit sixes at the new PCA stadium in Mullanpur, everyone wanted him to come back. If he plays at least three years for Punjab, he will give back at two 2 world-class players to Indian cricket. So he must play.”

Corona, suicide and politics -Advocate moves to save Nirav Modi

The lawyer, who is facing trial in London against extradition to India, has moved a new bet by the lawyer of diamond businessman Nirav Modi. The lawyer questioned the maintenance of Indian prisons. In British court, Nirav Modi’s lawyer, Clare Montgomery, claimed that there was unlikely to be a fair trial against his client there. He also said that due to lack of adequate medical facilities in Indian jails there is also a risk of suicide.

Modi committed almost two billion dollar fraud with Punjab National Bank (PNB). Various investigative agencies in India have registered cases against him. Modi’s aide Mehul Choksi is also wanted in India in this case. India is seeking extradition of the wanted accused through the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) of Britain.

Justice Samuel Goozee was taken through official Indian prisons data, including statistics on coronavirus cases at Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai where Modi is to be held if he is extradited.

Clare Montgomery, Nirav’s barrister also laid out her plans to depose further expert witnesses during the course of week.

“There has been a significant decline in the integrity of the justice system in India… and the Nirav Modi case has been made a political issue, with no presumption made of innocence,” Montgomery told the court.

She claimed that because the jeweller had been made into a “hate figure” in India, there was an “overwhelming political necessity” to condemn him and see him convicted.

India-China LAC dispute update: September 9, 2020

Amid the ongoing tensions between Indian and Chinese troops at Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh, China has started deploying its soldiers in large numbers near the LAC.

The PLA late on Monday night accused Indian troops of crossing the LAC and firing shots to deter Chinese patrol guards in the Pangong area. The Indian Army in its response, has said that at no stage has it transgressed across the LAC or resorted to use of any aggressive means.

Chinese troops carried rods, spears, clubs and pole weapons called ‘Guandao’ in aggressively trying to close in on an Indian position in Mukhpari area of Rezang-La ridgeline in eastern Ladakh on Monday evening, government sources said on Tuesday.

As both are developing big countries, China and India should work on co-existing peacefully and managing conflicts. India should not make provocations. If it does, history will repeat itself – the Indian army is bound to be defeated, report by GT Opinion.

The situation is getting more tensed across the border day by day. China is trying to get more domestic sympathy, just by faking such incidents.

CR7 reaches 101 goal, Portugal beats Sweden in National League

Cristiano Ronaldo became the second man to score 100 international goals, hitting the landmark for Portugal in Tuesday’s UEFA Nations League match vs. Sweden.

Ronaldo sits second in the all-time list of leading international scorers behind Iran’s Ali Daei, who scored 109 in his career. Daei, who played for Bayern Munich and Hertha Berlin at club level, featured for Iran from 1993 to his retirement in 2007.

Out of Ronaldo’s 100 goals, only 17 of them have come in international friendlies. In his long career for Portugal, he has scored seven goals vs Lithuania, six vs Sweden, five vs Andorra, Armenia, Latvia, and Luxembourg.

Ronaldo has six international hat tricks, and has scored seven goals in the FIFA World Cup stage and another nine at the UEFA Euros in his career.

At the age of 19, Ronaldo scored his first international goal at Euro 2004. He has gone on to pass the likes of Eusebio and Pauleta to become Portugal’s all-time top goalscorer and has now more than doubled previous record-holder Pauleta, who netted 47 times for the Selecao.

On his milestone goal, Ronaldo said: “I am very happy. Firstly, because the team won, which was the goal we had. Then the 100 mark and then the 101, with two goals, makes me very happy.

“Now the future is only for God. I feel good, I feel good for playing with these young players.”

Mulan sparks boycott movement over blockbuster scenes filmed in China’s Xinjiang

Disney’s film Mulan remake is receiving flak over some of its blockbusters scenes that were shot in China’s Xinjiang – the region where widespread rights abuses against its Muslim population were carried out.

The film, which depicts the story of a legendary Chinese warrior, was already in the midst of controversy after the lead actress Liu Yifei extended her support to Hong Kong’s police following their actions against the democracy protests last year. This sparked the #BoycottMulan movement, which, on the film’s release, re-emerged in Taiwan, Thailand and Hong Kong, with ongoing protests in other countries.

The fresh calls for boycott erupted after the credit scenes of the film mentioned a “special thanks” to Xinjiang government. Eight entities in Xinjiang were thanked, including the public security bureau in Turpan – a city where numerous internement camps have been documented.

Another entity mentioned was the Chinese Communist Party’s propaganda department in Xinjiang.

The fresh angered have sparked after it was revealed that Uighur and Kazakh Muslims have been forced to work under dangerous situation along with restriction on their movement.

Isaac Stone Fish, a senior fellow at the Asia Society, have called the film an “arguably Disney’s most problematic movie” since “Song of the South”.

“It’s sufficiently astonishing that it bears repeating,” he wrote in a Washington Post column.

“Disney has thanked four propaganda departments and a public security bureau in Xinjiang, a region in northwest China that is the site of one of the world’s worst human rights abuses happening today,” he added.

Mulan which is the remake of the 1998 animated film of the same name, was first premiered in Hollywood on March 9, 2020. The film’s release was delayed multiple times and was later premiered on Disney +.

Government refuses to extend 4G internet beyond Ganderbal, Udhampur in J&K

The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Tuesday decided against extending the 4G mobile internet facility outside the districts of Ganderbal and Udhampur, citing apprehensions about possible misuse by those indulging in terror activities.

However, the high-speed facility which was restored on a trial basis in Kashmir’s Ganderbal and Jammu region’s Udhampur on 16 August would continue till 30 September as there has been no report of misuse in the two districts.

Internet services were cut off in Jammu and Kashmir last year on August 5, hours before the Centre revoked Article 370 of the Constitution and split the state into two Union Territories.

The low-speed or 2G internet service on mobile phones was restored on January 25, although outages continue to be imposed intermittently amid a complete ban on 4G network.

Pointing out that agencies have reported infiltration attempts by terrorists along the LoC and International Border, and apprehension of facilitation of these attempts if high-speed mobile data services are restored, UT’s Principal Secretary Home Shaleen Kabra said that they have also indicated potential of misuse of high-speed data services in disturbing public order.

TikTok joins European Union’s Code of Conduct against hate Speech

Video making app, TikTok, owned by the Chinese firm ByteDnace has announced to join the European Union’s Code of Conduct against hate speech.

“I commend TikTok for their decision to sign up to our EU Code of Conduct,” EU Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders commented on Tuesday, when retweeting an announcement from the EU’s executive arm.

“By signing up to our Code of Conduct, TikTok has demonstrated a firm commitment to tackling illegal hate speech online. The EU needs robust cooperation with such prominent actors to make the digital environment a safe place for all,” Reynders said in the announcement.

By joining the Code of Conduct, TikTok has become ninth application to curb hate speech on its platform. Facebook, Microsoft, Twitter are other giants to have joined the conduct.

“Our ultimate goal is to eliminate hate on TikTok. We recognise that this may seem an insurmountable challenge as the world is increasingly polarised, but we believe that this shouldn’t stop us from trying,” TikTok’s head of trust and safety for EMEA Cormac Keenan said in a statement.

The Code of Conduct was set up in May 2016 by EU for tech companies to come under the same umbrella and adhere to same values to remove online hate speech.

The easy accessibility of social media has led to the increase in vile content on the web platforms. For which, the apps have received constant flak from the politicians and governments. TikTok being one of the wildly popular mediums has also been constantly under observation, but by adhering to European Union’s voluntary Code of Conduct, the video-sharing-app has made its intention clear to be a part of civil society.
