Ishant Sharma described the toughest part of his career, he said he felt he 'betrayed the country' when the Australian all-rounder James Faulkner crushed

Ishant Sharma described the toughest part of his career, he said he felt he ‘betrayed the country’ when the Australian all-rounder James Faulkner crushed 30 runs in his 6 balls in the 3rd ODI of India-Australia series in 2013.

“The turning point of my life came in 2013. Faulkner hit me for 30 runs in one over in an ODI in Mohali that Australia went on to win,” said Ishant Sharma on cricketbaazi show as quoted on ESPNcricinfo.

Faulkner scored 64 runs off 29 balls which helped Australia to chase the mammoth target of 304 and the lead of 2-1 in the seven-match ODI series. The 2013 India-Australia series was all about scoring chasing in the second innings, India also chased two 350+ scores and still, that was the best bilateral series India played in the past decade.

I felt like I betrayed my nation: Ishant Sharma

“At that time I felt I had betrayed myself and my country,” said Ishant going on to reveal that he cried for two weeks after that Mohali ODI. “For two-three weeks, I didn’t speak to anyone. I cried a lot. I am a very tough guy. My mother says she hasn’t seen a tougher person than me. [But] I called my girlfriend and cried on the phone like a child. Those three weeks were like a nightmare. I stopped eating. I couldn’t sleep or do anything else. You switch on the television and people are criticizing you, which messes you up even more,” said Ishant as saying by Hindustan Times.

“I laugh about it now and I consider it a blessing in disguise. Sometimes you need a jolt to understand your passion. After the Faulkner incident, I went through major changes in my life. After 2013, I started taking things seriously. Before that, if I had a bad performance, people would come and tell me ‘It’s okay, it happens.’ But after 2013, if someone came to me and said that, I wouldn’t listen. If I have made a mistake, I have made a mistake. I started taking responsibility for my actions. When you do that, you play every match to win it for the team,” Ishant added.

Ishant Sharma is one of the most consistent performers of Indian cricket and he is just 3 short of taking 300 international wickets. His heroics in the 2018-2019 India-Australia series in Australia is the best part of his career.

Tribals in Andhra and Telangana make masks from leaves to contain covid spread

At a time when metropolis are spending a fortune on buying protective equipments to curb the spread of coronavirus, tribes in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have taken their own steps to ensure the safety of their communities.

The tribals, who inhabitate the thick dense forests of Andhra and Telangana, have made personal protective equipment to prevent one another from infection by making masks from leaves. These masks are not only cost effective, but also contain many medicinal value. To make a mask, all you have to do is pluck out a number of timber and create a facial covering with the help of its leaves.

While Andhra and Telangana remain the worst hit states by covid, the tribals of the very same states have recorded no instances of the novel virus that has claimed thousands of lives in the country.

S Balaraju, director of Nature, an NGO, said that round 15,000 individuals are utilizing leaf masks in numerous tribal pockets of north coastal Andhra, Times of India reported.

“Lots of them belong to the primitive susceptible tribal teams of the Japanese Ghats,” TOI quoted him as saying.

The revolutionary concept was introduced by the tribals living in the thick forests of Bhadrachalam on the AP-Telangana border. The hack was then passed on to the tribals dwelling in the Nallamala, Yerramala and Araku in Andhra Pradesh and within the forests of Adilabad, Khammam and Warangal in Telangana.

Chenchus, Konda Reddys, Gonds, Gutti Koyas, Bondas, Parangiporaja, Muliyas, Kodhu, Gadabas, Savaras and Yanadis are among the tribes who were seen donning the leaf masks.

The number and type of leaves used in making the masks vary from place to place. Some use palm and teak, while others make masks of sal and pongamia leaves.

“The normal leaf masks are primarily made out of Pongamia. Historically, Pongamia leaf bowls are popularly used right here. The bowls are transformed to masks after attaching them to pure fibre strings,” Nadala Butki, Iragai, Araku Valley mandal, was quoted as saying by TOI.

In contrast to metropolitan cities, the tribal communities don’t depend on the federal government for their safety and needs.

Korra Addu, a tribal youth chief from Ganella said, “Although the federal government distributed masks, we switched to the leaf masks after exhausting them. Every of us obtained three masks from the federal government.”

Scientific body warns of second wave of coronavirus in France

France’s top scientific body has warned that the country will most likely witness the second wave of coronavirus this autumn or winter as the number of new cases continue to rise over the past two weeks.

“France has the situation under control but it is precarious with a surge of virus circulation this summer. The short term future of the pandemic mainly lies in the hands of the population,” the scientific committee on the disease said in a statement published by the Health Ministry’s website.

“It is highly likely that we will experience a second epidemic wave this autumn or winter,” the statement added.

The council has said that France could lose control over the virus “at any moment.” “The balance is fragile and we can change course at any time to a less controlled scenario like in Spain for example,” it said.

The warning comes after the head of the German doctors’ union said Germany was already dealing with a second wave and threw away its early success in curbing the virus by dissenting social distancing rules.

French authorities have already started to take added precautionary measures with stricter guidelines. Public hygiene rules have been tightened with cities such as Lille and Nice ordering people to wear masks in busy pedestrian streets.

The country has recorded 7,000 new cases in the last week, post controlling the early spread of the virus nearly with a strict two-month nationwide lockdown that ran from March 17 to May 11.

Sushant Singh Rajput case: Centre gives nod to CBI probe into actor’s death

In a major development in the Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, centre has agreed for a CBI inquiry on Wednesday. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed Supreme Court that the Union of India has in principle accepted the recommendation by Bihar CM, Nitish Kumar, to order a CBI probe into the case.

“Union of India has in principle accepted the request by Bihar to have a CBI probe. Notification regarding the same will be issued by end of day today,” Mehta said.

Mehta made the submission during the hearing of a plea by actor Rhea Chakraborty seeking transfer of the case registered in Bihar’s capital of Patna to Maharashtra’s Mumbai. Mehta, representing centre, said that notification for the Central Bureau of Investigation will be issued soon, most likely by the end of the day.

The top court has given three days to all the parties to submit their response into the matter. It also ordered the Maharashtra government to inform the court of the development in investigation by Mumbai Police into Rajput’s death. The case is scheduled to be heard on next week.

A bench of Justice Hrishikesh Roy said that truth behind the 34-year-old young actor’s death should come out. “Truth should come out so far as actor’s death is concerned,” the SC bench said, as reported by news agency PTI.

Susahnt Singh Rajput’s sister, who has been demanding a CBI probe into the death, tweeted about it. “CBI it is!!! #JusticeForSushant #CBIEnquiryForSSR #CBIenquiry,” she wrote.

Sushant’s former girlfriend, Ankita Lokhande, expressed her gratitude on social media and wrote,” The moment we’ve all waired for has finally arrived.”

Bihar chief minister, Nitish Kumar, on Tuesday, recommended a CBI investigation into the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput with due permission from late actor’s family. “Since the family has given its consent, we are recommending a CBI probe on the FIR which was lodged in Bihar,” Nitish Kumar told NDTV.

Sushant’s death case raised political turmoil between two states, Bihar and Maharashtra, after Sushant’s father filed an FIR in Patna when the case was already under Mumbai Police’s investigation. Many renowned names has been dragged in connection to the death including Maharashtra Chief Minister’s son and Shiv Sena leader, Aaditya Thackeray.

Aaditya, on Tuesday, broke his silence and rubbished all the allegations against him and the Maharashtra government. He slammed the opposition for using someone’s death for political gains and called it “dirty politics”! He said this was coming out of “political despair” as some couldn’t digest the success of the ruling State Government’s efforts in bringing the COVID-19 pandemic under control.

“As the grandson of Hinduruday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray, I would like to clarify that I won’t get involved in any such matter which will drag down the dignity of Maharashtra, Shiv Sena and the Thackeray family,” he added.

Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Bandra apartment on June 14. The post mortem report revealed the cause of death to be asphyxia due to hanging. However, Sushant’s father suspected foul play in actor’s death and filed a complaint against Rhea Chakraborty for abetment of suicide.
