According to an official update shared by Punjab Police, authorities conducted 776 raids at identified locations linked to gangster networks across the state. The operation resulted in the arrest of 472 individuals, including eight proclaimed offenders. Police also recovered five weapons during the raids.

With the latest action, the total number of arrests made since the launch of the anti-gangster campaign has reached 52,174, highlighting the Punjab government’s continued efforts to curb organized crime.

For Punjab’s women centenarians, the financial assistance provided by the Bhagwant Mann government under the Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojana is much more than a monetary benefit. It has become a source of dignity, independence and reassurance in the twilight of their lives. Some are unable to walk, while others can barely hear or speak. Yet, despite the challenges that come with crossing the century mark, these women are fully aware that the financial assistance they receive is theirs to spend as they choose. That sense of ownership has brought them immense satisfaction.

Many beneficiaries say they first learnt about the scheme through neighbours and relatives. Determined not to miss the opportunity, they persuaded their children and other family members to accompany them to the nearest Anganwadi centres to complete the formalities. The assistance is particularly meaningful because it is provided in addition to their old-age or widow pension.

At 109, Bharbhur Kaur of Sangrur completed the application process with the help of her great-granddaughter-in-law and now withdraws the money from the bank with her assistance. She has kept the money safely in her wallet. “I will spend part of this money on my daughters, who are also in their 50s, and use the remaining amount to buy a hearing aid for myself. I am hard of hearing, but otherwise I am healthy. I can still do all the household work. I have no knee pain or any other ailment. No government has ever done anything like this before,” she said.

Mukhtiar Kaur (110) of Kotkapura has also received the financial assistance. Though she is hard of hearing, she speaks clearly and says she spent the money on household needs. “I have never seen any government before that has given such dignity to the women of the state,” she said.

At 102, Jasmel Kaur of Faridkot has spent much of her life caring for her family. The assistance she received was put to equally thoughtful use. “Main kuchh paisa apni davai-booti te kharch kita ate kuchh paisa apne jawai de ilaj vaste apni beti nu ditta,” she says. (“I spent some money on my medicines and gave a part of it to my daughter to help with the treatment of my son-in-law.”) “I am happy that the Bhagwant Mann Government is paying so much attention to women,” she said with a smile. “At this age, money becomes your companion. You need it for everything. Every breath is difficult now.”

In Moga, Pritam Kaur (102) is frail and hard of hearing. Speaking very little because of her age, she lets her son, Sikander Singh, explain how the ₹3,000 assistance has improved her life. The family purchased a wheelchair, enabling her to move around the house with greater ease, while the remaining amount was spent on medicines. For Pritam Kaur, the support has made everyday life a little more comfortable.

Equally delighted is Angrej Kaur (102). Though she has difficulty hearing, her enthusiasm is unmistakable. “Main taan apne kol rakhangi eh paisa. Jithe dil karega, uthe hi kharch karangi,” she said confidently. (“I will keep this money with me and spend it wherever I wish.”) She bought medicines and a new suit for herself and also spent part of the amount on her granddaughter—a gesture that reflects her enduring spirit of giving even at the age of 102.

The age-related ailments, physical limitations and quiet resilience of these women underscore the significance of the Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojana. For these remarkable centenarians, the financial assistance is not merely an amount credited to their bank accounts. It is recognition of lives well lived, a source of financial independence and a reminder that they continue to matter. Over 50.3 lakh e-Health Cards issued under Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana: Health Minister

Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh said that the Universal Health Scheme ‘Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana’, launched by the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has emerged as a boon for Punjabis by providing cashless free treatment worth more than Rs 914 crore to 5.12 lakh people within just six and a half months of its launch.

Addressing a press conference in Patiala and releasing the latest figures, Dr. Balbir Singh said that more than 50.3 lakh e-Health Cards have been issued under the scheme so far. The scheme has enabled patients to avail life-saving and expensive treatments without any financial burden. He said that the Punjab Government is committed to ensuring quality healthcare access to every eligible family without financial hardship.

The Health Minister said that the scheme has strengthened universal health coverage in the state by ensuring free, cashless and quality healthcare services for eligible families, due to which it has received an overwhelming response. He said that 733 cancer patients have received treatment under the scheme, while people are also benefiting from knee replacement surgeries, eye operations and heart treatments.

Dr. Balbir Singh said that patients are receiving cashless treatment at 868 empanelled government and private hospitals across Punjab. The scheme has benefited 2,50,359 families across the state, while 1.65 lakh beneficiaries have undergone surgeries under this initiative.

He said that the scheme reflects a strong partnership between government and private hospitals. Government hospitals have provided 2,29,551 treatments (45%), while private hospitals have provided 2,83,089 treatments (55%). This balanced participation has significantly improved access to quality healthcare services across Punjab.

The Health Minister expressed concern that while private hospitals in the state are being empanelled under the scheme, the exclusion of PGIMER Chandigarh by the Central Government from this scheme is an injustice and discrimination against Punjabis.

Dr. Balbir Singh further said that the Punjab Government has protected people from mental, financial and debt-related stress by providing free treatment under the scheme. He informed that 24,96,313 families are covered under the scheme across Punjab. Among total beneficiaries, 24.3 lakh (48%) are men and 26 lakh (52%) are women. Further, 34.2 lakh (68%) beneficiaries belong to rural areas, while 16.1 lakh (32%) are from urban areas.

He said that Ludhiana district has issued the highest number of e-cards with 5,46,380 cards covering 2,69,372 families, followed by Patiala with 4,56,730 cards covering 2,15,373 families, Jalandhar with 3,69,335 cards covering 1,85,285 families and Hoshiarpur with 3,45,094 cards covering 1,64,941 families. He added that Patiala and Bathinda are leading in terms of treatments provided.

Dr. Balbir Singh said that the scheme has helped patients avail several critical treatments including chronic haemodialysis, animal bite management (excluding snake bites), knee replacement, gall bladder surgeries, angioplasty, total hip replacement, kidney-related procedures, coronary artery bypass surgery, neonatal intensive care and other major healthcare packages.

He said that by providing cashless and uninterrupted dialysis services, the scheme is not only saving lives but also protecting families from catastrophic healthcare expenses while ensuring continuity of care and better quality of life.

Replying to a query regarding action against private hospitals, Dr. Balbir Singh said that the Punjab Government has strengthened its audit system. During investigations, Rs 2.98 lakh was refunded to six patients. Besides, 14 hospitals were inspected and found to have updated incorrect information, following which a penalty of Rs 78 lakh was imposed. Sarvodaya Hospital, Jalandhar, has been removed from the empanelled list.

The Health Minister appealed to people that if any hospital demands money during cashless treatment, asks patients to purchase items from outside or get tests conducted externally, they should report it on helpline number 104.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab State Media In-charge Baltej Pannu on Thursday declared the politics being played by the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the nationwide students’ agitation regarding the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) paper leak as shameful. He said that while lakhs of students across the country are fighting for justice and their future, both parties have chosen to level false and baseless allegations against the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab instead of standing with the youth.

In a statement, AAP Punjab Media In-charge Baltej Pannu said the students’ movement has become so powerful that it has shaken even the Congress, which once ruled the country. “However, rather than supporting the students’ demand for justice, the Congress and the BJP are attempting to mislead people by spreading misinformation about Punjab,” he added.

The AAP Punjab Media In-charge said, “The Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party are deliberately twisting facts. Not a single recruitment examination paper has leaked in Punjab during the nearly five-year tenure of CM Bhagwant Singh Mann. The incident reported in Faridkot was not a paper leak but a case of cheating through electronic gadgets. The candidate was caught red-handed at the examination centre itself, and the police immediately initiated strict legal action. Despite this, the Congress is deliberately portraying the incident as a paper leak to mislead the public.”

Baltej Pannu said the Congress should first introspect instead of making false allegations against the Punjab government. “The Congress should answer for the paper leak cases that occurred during its own tenure instead of trying to divert public attention through false statements. At the same time, more than 90 paper leaks took place under the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Central Government, putting the future of crores of young people at stake. More than 20 students died by suicide after being devastated by these incidents, yet the Bharatiya Janata Party government neither took timely strict action against those responsible nor made any effort to restore the confidence of the youth,” he said.

Baltej Pannu further said that the youth of the country are demanding justice, but the BJP government is trying to hide its failures by blaming the opposition instead of addressing the issue. “Instead of questioning the BJP over this massive failure, the Congress is echoing its narrative and making a futile attempt to defame the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab,” he added.

Baltej Pannu asserted that the people of Punjab and the youth of the country are fully aware of the truth. “The BJP and the Congress cannot hide their failures through false allegations and political theatrics. The Aam Aadmi Party stands firmly with the youth and will continue to raise their voice on every platform,” he added.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday called out the Prime Minister for attempting to divert attention from the recurring paper leak crisis and the youth protest by announcing fast track courts instead of addressing the students’ core demand for Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation. Questioning the government’s response, he emphasised that no announcement has been made to restore students’ confidence that future examination papers will not be leaked.

The AAP Chief also argued that despite the existence of numerous fast track courts across the country, many either do not function effectively or take even longer than ordinary courts, calling the Prime Minister’s statement an attempt to shield Dharmendra Pradhan.

Referring to PM Narendra Modi’s post on ‘X’ on Thursday, AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal said, “The Prime Minister has said that fast track courts will be set up to secure convictions in paper leak cases. But Prime Minister, this is not what the students asked for, nor was it their demand. It appears as though you are trying to fool the students.”

He added, “There are already many fast track courts in this country. There are fast track courts for rape cases, for POCSO cases and for several other kinds of matters. But hearings do not take place in them. In many fast track courts, cases take even longer than in ordinary courts.”

“So it appears that you are still trying to cover up the issue and are still making every effort to protect Dharmendra Pradhan. The students demanded Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not say a single word about that,” he asserted.

Speaking about the police action against the youth protesters, the AAP Chief emphasised, “Students suffered head injuries, their legs were broken, they were lathi charged, tear gas shells were fired at them and they were subjected to brutal attacks, because of which many of them are admitted to hospitals. I visited Jantar Mantar and saw all this myself, and I met many of the students there.”

He pointed out, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not express even a single word of sympathy for them. You post on X whenever anything happens anywhere in the world. Are these children not your children? Do you not feel even the slightest compassion for these students on whom you ordered such brutal action?”

Arvind Kejriwal further said, “The students are saying that papers are leaked every year.
