Donald Trump: General Mohammad Pakpour, the commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, has issued a stern warning to the United States and Israel to avoid any form of misadventure. Pakpour added that Israel and USA should learn from historical experiences of what they faced during the 12-day imposed war. The IRGC Commander added Iran has its finger on the trigger, ready to carry out the orders of supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Donald Trump has warned Iran that US naval “Armada” was progressing towards the Gulf. The US President said the prospect of an imminent military action could not be ruled out.

Last week, US media reported that USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group has been asked to perform manoeuvres in the South China Sea. The US President told reporters on Air Force One that the United States is watching the Islamic Republic of Iran.

He went on to reiterate that his threat to use sizeable force against Iran resulted in a stoppage of 837 protestor hangings. The US President said he was open to the idea of having discussions with Tehran.

On Wednesday, Iranian authorities provided their first official toll from the nationwide protests. It was added that 3,117 people were killed though many rights groups claimed that the number of casualties could be much higher. Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the NGO Iran Human Rights director, said the real count of protestors who died is much higher than the official figures provided by the Iranian government.

IGCR is sanctioned by many countries including the United States, Australia and Canada as a terrorist entity.

Joint Command Headquarters’ General Issues Warning

General Ali Abdollahi Aliabadi who leads the joint command headquarters in Iran, also issued a warning that all US bases, interests and centres of influence would be the legitimate targets of the armed forces of Iran.

In the post–COVID-19 recovery phase, the global economy growth was gradually returning to stability. However, this fragile recovery has been repeatedly disrupted by rising geopolitical tensions and war-like situations across several regions. Conflicts between neighbouring countries have emerged as a serious threat to world economic growth, international trade, and global supply chains.

War represents a negative shock to the global economy. Border conflicts and prolonged hostilities interrupt production processes, damage infrastructure, and destroy physical and human capital. Prominent examples include the Russia–Ukraine conflict, tensions between China and Taiwan, the India–Pakistan war, the Israel–Palestine conflict, and confrontations involving the United States, Iran, and Venezuela. Such conflicts not only destabilize the country’s economy directly involved but also create ripple effects across the global economy.

Many countries specialize in the production of specific goods and are globally recognized for their output contribution to the world markets—such as energy resources, agricultural commodities, technology, or manufactured products. When war disrupts these economies, production declines sharply. As a result, affected countries become unable to participate effectively in global supply chains and international trade. This leads to shortages, rising prices, and uncertainty in global markets.

The economic consequences are severe. Directly, war leads to loss of income, employment, and a decline in living standards in conflict-affected regions. Indirectly, other countries also experience reduced growth, inflationary pressures, and supply disruptions. Thus, the standard of living and income levels of even peaceful nations are adversely affected.

In conclusion, the war hampers world peace and causes large-scale destruction of people, economic growth, global trade, and supply chains. In an increasingly interconnected world, peace is an essential for sustainable development and shared prosperity. Avoiding the war is not only a humanitarian necessity but also a fundamental requirement for global economic stability.

Bhagwant Mann intensified its crackdown on organised crime under Gangstran Te Vaar with the third day of Operation Prahaar, delivering a major blow to gangster networks operating from abroad. The 72-hour intelligence-led operation focused on dismantling the logistical, financial and communication support systems of criminals active both within Punjab and from overseas locations.

Operation Prahaar Day 3: Bhagwant Mann cracks down on foreign-based gangster networks

According to official data shared by Punjab Police, a total of 4,871 individuals were rounded up during the state-wide operation, out of which 3,256 were formally arrested. The action also led to the arrest of 80 proclaimed offenders, while 25 individuals were taken into preventive custody to avert potential criminal activities.

During the operation, police teams recovered 69 weapons along with large quantities of heroin, opium, intoxicant pills, poppy husk and suspected drug money. The seizures point towards a coordinated effort to choke supply chains linked to narcotics trafficking and illegal arms movement, which officials say are often controlled by foreign-based gang leaders.

Over 2,000 police teams comprising nearly 12,000 personnel were deployed across Punjab to carry out coordinated raids, verification drives and targeted arrests. The operation specifically targeted financial channels, weapon suppliers, logistics handlers and communication links used by gangster syndicates to run their networks remotely.

Punjab Police said verification of all detained individuals is underway and strict legal action will be initiated against those found involved in criminal activities. Authorities have reiterated their zero-tolerance approach towards organised crime and drug syndicates operating in the state.

The police have also urged citizens to actively support the anti-gangster drive through the Anti-Gangster Helpline (93946-93946). Information can be shared anonymously, with rewards of up to ₹10 lakh being offered for inputs leading to the arrest of gangsters.

Released by Salman Khan Films, the teaser offers a brief look at the film’s theme and setting. It focuses on the events surrounding the Galwan clash, one of the most serious confrontations along the Line of Actual Control in recent years.

What The Maatrubhumi Teaser Shows

The “Maatrubhumi” teaser opens with the sound of a military bugle. In its 15-second runtime, the visuals centre on soldiers in difficult terrain, with repeated shots of the Indian national flag. The imagery highlights the conditions faced by troops stationed at the border.

As the bugle fades, background music takes over while the visuals continue to show soldiers and national symbols. The teaser does not reveal much about the song itself, but gives an idea of the tone the makers are aiming for. The full track is expected to offer more clarity once it is released.

Several parties and political leaders in Pakistan have blasted the decision of Sharif to join the board of peace. Calling its morally questionable and poorly thought, political leaders said an important decision like this should have been taken only after having a word with other parties. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rebuked the move by Shehbaz Sharif saying thorough scrutiny by the Pakistani parliament must have been practiced before finalizing anything.

Babar Awan, the former law minister of Pakistan, said the Pakistani PM had made a grave mistake. Awan said the habit of “boot-polishing” by Sharif has caused great damage to the country. Awan added that holding Benjamin Netanyahu unaccountable for his atrocities and war crimes is a defiance of the command of Quaid-e-Azam.

Under the agreement, Sharif’s Pakistan would send its military force in Gaza and disarm Hamas. Interestingly, Pakistan has blasted Israel and Benjamin Netanyahu in the past for Gaza attacks.

Trump’s Peace Board would emphasize on issues such as reconstruction, governance, capacity-building, regional relations, capital mobilization and large-scale funding. The White House also disclosed the establishment of a Gaza Executive Board that would join hands with the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG) and the Office of the High Representative headed by Bulgarian diplomat Nickolay Mladenov.

T20 World Cup 2026: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has refused to travel to India for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026. This was after the International Cricket Council (ICC) refused its request to shift its matches to Sri Lanka from India.

Madan Lal, a member of the 1983 World Cup-winning squad, claimed that it was Pakistan that instigated Bangladesh to pull out of the world cup. Previously, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had offered to be a host to matches involving Bangladesh. Madan Lal added that the decision of Bangladesh to skip the prestigious world cup would not hurt India as it is the strongest cricket boards today.

A few weeks back, Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman was removed from the Indian Premier League.

In a meeting between the BCB, the players and the Bangladesh government, it was announced that the assessment of ICC was not acceptable to Bangladesh. The ICC’s independent security assessments concluded that there were absolutely no credit threats to officials or players at the Indian venues. The ICC contended that altering the T20 World Cup 2026 schedule so close to the event in India was infeasible.

T20 World Cup 2026-Scotland To Replace Bangladesh

Scotland is all set to replace Bangladesh after the latter refused to play its matches in India.

The BCB would suffer a loss of around 27 million dollars (Rs. 240 crores, 325 crore Bangladeshi Taka) for boycotting the cricket world cup. Furthermore, it would lose sponsorship revenue, broadcast revenue and its income for the financial year would take a big hit, which would be close to 60 percent or more. This would also mean that India would now refuse to travel in August-September in Bangladesh.

Bangladeshi players were assured that they would not be missing out on match money. BCB told players that they would still be paid.

PM Modi would lay the foundations stone of CSIR-NIIST Innovation that would be an out-of-the-box technology and entrepreneurship hub. He would also lay the foundation stone of a Radio Surgery Centre of Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences & Technology. In Thiruvananthapuram, he would inaugurate the Poojappura Head Post Office Building.

The Indian Prime Minister would also provide credit card and loans to 1 lakh beneficiaries under PM SVANidhi Scheme. The PM would also inaugurate a passenger train from Thrissur to Guruvayur and 3 Amrit Bharat trains from Thiruvananthapuram Central to Tambaram and Thiruvananthapuram North to Charlapalli and Nagercoil Junction to Mangaluru Junction.

Emraan Hashmi starrer crime thriller Taskaree: The Smuggler‘s Web has made history. It is the first Indian series to reach number one on Netflix’s Global Non-English Top 10 list. Released on January 14, the show quickly captured global attention, outperforming several popular international and Indian originals in its first week.

Even Aryan Khan’s much-hyped Netflix series The Bads of Bollywood and Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s Heeramandi could not achieve this feat. Taskaree’s rise marks a major milestone for Indian streaming content on the global stage.

Netflix Global Non-English #1: How Taskaree Outperformed Other Shows

According to Tudum (Netflix’s data arm), Neeraj Pandey’s Taskaree recorded 5.4 million views between January 12 and 18. This placed it ahead of the Korean rom-com Can This Love Be Translated?, which amassed 4 million views in just three days, having been released on January 16.

The Emraan Hashmi-led series also surpassed other international hits like –

Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web is a crime thriller set at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. The series follows Superintendent Arjun Meena, played by Emraan Hashmi, a sharp and disciplined customs officer leading an elite task force to take down a global smuggling syndicate.

Unlike traditional action-packed dramas, the show focuses on a procedural style, highlighting surveillance, intelligence-gathering and legal strategies used to intercept contraband ranging from gold to luxury goods.

The series premiered on Netflix on January 14, and has seven episodes (each running 38 to 58 minutes). Alongside Emraan Hashmi, the cast includes Sharad Kelkar as the antagonist Bada Chaudhary, with Amruta Khanvilkar, Nandish Singh Sandhu, Anurag Sinha and Zoya Afroz in key roles. Its grounded storytelling and strong performances have helped it resonate with audiences globally.

A spell of rain across Delhi-NCR has deepened the winter chill, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an orange alert for adverse weather conditions. Cloud cover, intermittent showers, and gusty winds have led to a noticeable drop in daytime and night-time temperatures, catching many residents off guard.

Weather officials attribute the change to an active western disturbance impacting northern India, with cold and damp conditions expected to linger for at least the next 24 hours.

Orange Alert Signals Disruptions, Caution Advised

Under the orange alert, the IMD has advised residents to remain cautious, particularly during early morning and late evening hours. Reduced visibility, slippery roads, and sudden showers could disrupt daily commutes, especially in low-lying areas of Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram.

Authorities have urged people to limit unnecessary travel and stay updated on weather advisories.

Temporary Breather for Delhi’s Air Quality

The rainfall has also offered a short-term respite from pollution, washing down dust and airborne pollutants. Several monitoring stations recorded a marginal improvement in air quality levels, leading to cautious optimism among Delhiites who have endured weeks of smog.

However, environmental experts warn that the improvement may be temporary. Once rainfall subsides and wind speeds drop, pollution levels could rebound due to vehicular emissions and winter inversion layers.

Winter Far From Over

Meteorologists say the cold spell may intensify in the coming days, with cloudy skies keeping temperatures below seasonal averages. While the rain has made the air feel fresher, the broader battle against winter pollution remains unresolved.

Early Life: Forging a Revolutionary Mind

Born in 1897 in Cuttack to a Bengali family, Subhash Chandra Bose grew up in a politically charged era under British rule. In 1921, he rejected an Indian Civil Service job to join the freedom struggle, influenced by the teachings of Swami Vivekananda. His passion burned bright early, imprisoned multiple times and escaped house arrest disguised as a Pathan in 1941, embarking on a daring journey to Japan and Germany.

The charisma of Subhash united diverse group. He revitalized the Indian National Congress as its president in 1938 and 1939, clashing with Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi over non-violence. He declared that freedom is not given but taken, forming the Forward Bloc to push aggressive action.

Key Achievements: From INA to Immortal Legacy

The crowning glory of Netaji as he was fondly called was the Indian National Army (INA). In 1943, he assumed leadership of the Azad Hind Fauj, proclaiming himself as the Head of State and Prime Minister. Subhash made the war cry “Chalo Delhi” that prompted more than 40,000 soldiers to march, liberating parts of Northeast India. The INA trials in Delhi sparked the Royal Indian Navy mutiny, hastening Britain’s exit in 1947.

Posthumously awarded Bharat Ratna in 1997, Subhash Chandra Bose symbolized bold resistance. Unlike passive satyagraha, Bose championed armed struggle, believing only total war could shatter colonial chains. His all-women regiment championed gender equality decades ahead. His mysterious 1945 plane crash in Taiwan fuelled debates and boldness trumped hesitation.

Border 2 Review: Border 2 finally hit theatres today (January 23), bringing back one of Hindi cinema’s most iconic war franchises to the big screen. The sequel marks Sunny Deol’s return to the battlefield, this time alongside Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty. As fans visited cinemas for the first day, first show, early reactions quickly flooded social media, sparking a debate over whether nostalgia is the film’s biggest strength.

Directed by Anurag Singh (known for Kesari and Jugjugg Jeeyo), Border 2 serves as a follow-up to JP Dutta’s 1997 blockbuster Border. The original film continues to enjoy cult status for its emotional depth and patriotic impact. With the sequel, the makers aim bigger. The scale is grander, the cast is larger and the action is louder. However, audience reactions suggest that the film’s reception is mixed, even if the excitement around Sunny Deol remains strong.

Border 2 Review: What Early Viewers Are Saying

Soon after the film’s public screenings, viewers took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their Border 2 review. One user (who rated the film two stars) felt the intention behind the film was clear, but the execution faltered. According to the viewer, the patriotic moments and power-packed scenes worked in parts, but the emotional beats felt forced. The user also pointed out that the screenplay dragged in certain sections and concluded that nostalgia seemed to be doing most of the work.

Border 2 is a war drama set against the backdrop of the 1971 India-Pakistan War. Positioned as a spiritual successor to the 1997 classic, the film expands its narrative to depict large-scale, coordinated military operations across land, air and sea. The story draws inspiration from real-life events such as Operation Chengiz Khan, the Battle of Basantar, and the naval defence involving INS Khukri.

Sunny Deol leads the ensemble, reprising his iconic presence as a senior army officer, identified in reports as Lt Col Fateh Singh Kaler or Major Kuldip Singh Chandpuri. Varun Dhawan essays the role of Major Hoshiar Singh Dahiya, while Diljit Dosanjh plays Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon. Ahan Shetty appears as a naval commander, adding another layer to the multi-front war narrative. The supporting cast includes Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Medha Rana and Anya Singh.

The film has a certified runtime of 3 hours and 19 minutes and received a ‘U/A’ certificate from the CBFC in January 2026. While the makers have not officially confirmed the budget, reports estimate the production cost to be between Rs 230 crore and Rs 250 crore. Some industry sources suggest it may go as high as Rs 350 crore, factoring in extensive VFX work and large-scale combat sequences.
