Farooq Abdullah: The former Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir had a miraculous escape when a gunman claiming to be the chairman of ‘Jagran Manch’ tried to shoot him from point blank range. Farooq Abdullah, the National Conference (NC) president, survived the attack after his security thwarted the attack.
Abdullah was accompanied by Nasir Aslam Wani, an advisor to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary.

A resident of Jammu’s Purani Mandi, Kamal Singh Jamwal attacked Abdullah using his personal gun. Preliminary investigation concluded that Jamwal owns a few shops in Old Jammu and survives by earning rental income.
According to police reports, Jamwal was drunk when he attacked Abdullah at Hotel Royal Park that is located in Jammu’s Greater Kailash locality. The former Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister was leaving a marriage function when the 63-year-old Jamwal attacked him. The man opened fire after targeting the convoy before swift intervention by security personnel thwarted his assassination attempt.
Jamwal said he wanted to kill Farooq Abdullah for the last 2 decades and got the opportunity but Farooq was lucky to have survived the lethal attack.
Reaction Of Omar Abdullah
Omar Abdullah, the son of Farooq, said in a post on X that his father had a very close shave after a man was able to get within point blank range with a loaded pistol and discharged a gun shot. The Jammu and Kashmir chief minister remarked it was only because of the close protection team that his father survived. Omar expressed surprise over how someone could get that close to a Z+ NSG protected former CM.
Police officials that the loaded pistol has been seized from the accused and the case is under detailed investigation. Police has ruled out any form of terrorism angle in the incident.
