First Maruti 800: The car that revolutionised the Auto industry in India showcased at Maruti’s HQ

First Maruti 800: When the Maruti 800 and the Alto were sold side by side, the 800 used to outsell the Alto for many years. Here are some points that lead you to the journey of the company, Maruti Suzuki.

The first 800, introduced in 1983, recently celebrated 39 years in production. After being fully restored, the hatchback has now been placed on display at Maruti Suzuki’s corporate headquarters.

The first Alto 800 ever produced rolled out of the Haryana production facility of Maruti Udyog Limited. The first Alto 800 was delivered to Mr. Harpal Singh in New Delhi by the then-prime minister Indira Gandhi, who also gave him the keys.

When Maruti discontinued making this car in 2010, the Alto eventually replaced it as India’s best-selling vehicle.

The first-generation 800, also known as the SS80, had a three-cylinder, 796cc engine that was carbureted; however, a later upgrade added fuel injection technology. Up until 2014, when Maruti Suzuki ultimately chose to stop manufacture, the 796cc F8D petrol engine in the 800 continued to be sold.
