The government has opened a website for accepting applications for the entire process that has now been digitalized.

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2026: A Complete Step-By-Step Guide

For thousands of devotees and spiritual seekers, the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is not just a journey, it is an once-in-a-lifetime calling.

Mount Kailash is revered across religions, while Mansarovar Lake is believed to purify the soul. Each year, the Indian government facilitates this demanding pilgrimage through a structured application process. For 2026, the application window is set to close by the end of this month, making it crucial for interested pilgrims to act without delay.

The Lipulekh route is physically demanding, involving trekking across high-altitude terrain, while the Nathu La route is comparatively less strenuous and accessible to older pilgrims or those less accustomed to trekking. The journey tests physical endurance and mental resilience due to extreme weather conditions and high altitudes exceeding 15,000 feet.

How To Apply: Step-By-Step Process

  • Visit the official Kailash Mansarovar Yatra website hosted by the MEA. Login to your existing account or create a new account.
  • Log in and complete the detailed application form. This includes personal details, passport information, emergency contacts and preferred route selection.
  • Applicants must upload scanned copies of their passport, recent photographs, and any additional documents specified.
  • A non-refundable registration fee must be paid online.
  • Submit the application. A confirmation receipt and application number will be generated for future reference.

Selection is conducted through a computer-generated lottery system to ensure fairness, given the high demand and limited slots.

Who Can Apply: Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be Indian citizens holding a valid passport with at least six months’ validity beyond the travel period. The age bracket typically ranges from 18 to 70 years, although this may vary slightly depending on medical guidelines issued for the year.

Applicants must undergo rigorous medical screening, including stress tests and high-altitude tolerance checks. Pre-existing conditions such as severe heart disease, respiratory disorders or uncontrolled diabetes may lead to disqualification.

Prior trekking experience is not mandatory but is strongly recommended, especially for those opting for the Lipulekh route.
