Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has announced a major push to strengthen the dairy sector, stating that the state aims to emerge as the number one in milk production through targeted policy support.
Highlighting new measures, the Chief Minister said that subsidies will be provided for setting up gaushalas (cow shelters), which will not only increase milk production but also contribute to the preservation and promotion of traditional cattle-based practices.
Mohan Yadav: Subsidy for small-scale units
Under the initiative, even smaller units will benefit, as a subsidy of up to ₹10 lakh per unit will be provided for setting up gaushalas with as few as 25 cows. The move is expected to encourage wider participation in the dairy sector.
Boost to farmers’ income
Mohan Yadav said the initiative will help increase farmers’ income, offering an additional and stable source of earnings alongside agriculture.
Strengthening rural economy
Officials believe the policy will play a key role in strengthening the rural economy, generating employment opportunities and supporting allied activities like animal husbandry.
Support for natural farming
The initiative is also expected to promote natural farming practices, as cattle-based inputs such as organic manure can enhance soil health and sustainability.
Focus on livestock development
The move reflects the state government’s broader strategy to improve livestock infrastructure, boost productivity, and build a more resilient agricultural ecosystem in Madhya Pradesh.
