MP News: Madhya Pradesh to Establish 800 MW Solar Park for Shared Power Supply with UP

Madhya Pradesh (MP) is set to establish an 800 MW solar park, which will alternately supply power to MP and Uttar Pradesh (UP) every six months, ensuring optimal utilization of renewable energy resources, as reported by the Times of India (TOI).

The project will consist of four units of 200 MW each, with power procurement managed jointly by the MP Power Management Company and the UP Power Corporation Limited. This unique alternating supply model will help address varying energy demands in both states, ensuring a balanced and efficient distribution of solar power.

Strategic Power Allocation and Project Execution Timeline

During a pre-bid meeting at the Global Investors Summit (GIS) in Bhopal on February 25, Additional Chief Secretary for New and Renewable Energy, Manu Shrivastav, emphasized that the project is a pure solar initiative designed to support two states with alternating six-month cycles.

Investors were presented with a detailed roadmap outlining key project milestones:

May 9: Release of final bid documents.

June 23: Reverse auction to finalize developer selection.

July 14: Signing of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).

This initiative is expected to enhance renewable energy integration while ensuring efficient power distribution based on regional demand. The MP government’s focus on sustainable energy development aligns with its broader efforts to promote clean energy solutions and attract investments in the renewable sector.

Boost to Renewable Energy and Economic Growth

The alternating power supply model is expected to enhance power stability, particularly during peak demand seasons in both states. MP and UP have different energy consumption patterns, and this system ensures that solar power is utilized where it is needed most, reducing wastage and maximizing efficiency.

Additionally, the project is expected to attract significant investments in the renewable energy sector. It aligns with India’s commitment to increase solar energy capacity and reduce dependence on fossil fuels, thus contributing to the nation’s clean energy transition goals.

The solar park is also expected to generate employment opportunities in the region, both during construction and in operational phases. With increasing focus on green energy, this project could set a benchmark for inter-state power-sharing models and sustainable energy management in India.
