Rajasthan News: The government of Rajasthan has announced major changes to the free scooty offer under the Kalibai Bheel Medhavi Chhatra Scooty Yojana and the Devnarayan Student Scooty Distribution and Incentive Schemes.

Under the revised schemes, eligible girl students would have the choice to get direct bank transfer (DBT) in place to the state government purchasing and distributing scooties. For several years, the state has been providing free scooties to meritorious and talented schoolgirls to encourage them to study. The revised scheme option would allow them to purchase a scooty of their preferred brand.

Rajasthan News-Past Issues

Previously, the state government faced delays in buying, transporting and distributing scooties across Rajasthan districts, causing eligible girls to wait for 2-3 years or even longer in some cases.

For many girls, especially those living in rural and semi-urban areas, transportation remains one of the biggest barriers to continuing education after school. Colleges and higher secondary institutions are often located far from villages, making daily travel difficult, expensive and sometimes unsafe.

In many families, these challenges become reasons to discontinue a girl’s education early. The revamped scooty schemes could help in directly tackling these issues by making transportation easier and more accessible.

New Changes

For the existing academic year, funds will be directly transferred to eligible girls’ accounts under both schemes, eliminating long waits. In Jhunjhunu district, 702 eligible girls and about 800 in Sikar will receive transfers soon, while statewide, 25,977 selected girls will get the amount instead of scooties. The nodal officer for Jhunjhunu, Dr. Surendra Kumar, confirmed this development.

Students would now be required to update their bank account details with the school. The bank account must be in the name of the girl student and passbook and a cancelled cheque would need to be uploaded. Girl students who have not received scooties by now would be required to visit e-Mitra Kendra to update their details.
