Schools are closed in Jammu and Kashmir due to heavy rainfall, flashfloods

JAMMU: After heavy rainfall in Jammu’s Ramban district on Thursday, schools and other educational institutions have been closed. Due to the heavy rainfall mudslides and flashfloods have been triggered, officials said. In the Chinab river, the water level has increased to a dangerous level of 35 feet and a warning has been given by the authorities as the danger will increase. The Jammu-Srinagar highway was been shut as the mudslides bought hundreds of vehicles to stop on the way.

“In view of heavy rains across district Ramban, all government and private schools shall remain closed today. Students are advised to stay home and remain safe”, an official said. Authorities have advised people and children to stay away from waterbodies as heavy downpour has increased their water levels, they said.

The J&K authorities have urged the general public to not step put in rainfall as it could lead to danger.
