Samrat Choudhary: Bharatiya Janata Party has got its first-ever Chief Minister in the state of Bihar. The 57-year-old Samrat Choudhary has sworn as the Bihar CM, replacing Nitish Kumar.
Who Is Samrat Choudhary?
Samrat Choudhary was unanimously elected as leader as leaders of the NDA legislature in the state of Bihar. Samrat came to prominence after he pledged publicly to remove his traditional turban (muretha) until Nitish Kumar was removed from the post of Chief Minister nearly three years ago. Interestingly, Nitish Kumar joined the NDA and Samrat removed the turban after considering his pledge fulfilled.
Born on 16 November 1968, Samrat has held several state portfolios including Health, Panchayati Raj, Industry, Commercial Taxes, Finance, Urban Development & Housing and more. Son of former MLA Shakuni Choudhary and politician Parvati Devi, Samrat belongs to the Koeri (Kushwaha) community, a numerically strong Other Backward Class (OBC) group that has long been a key vote bank in Bihar politics.
DON'T MISS
According to media reports, Samrat completed his education from PFC Kamaraj University in Tamil Nadu and California Public University in the United States. The camp of Samrat has generally framed his education as a mix of basic schooling in Bihar and later honorary recognition abroad, arguing that his real “qualification” is 25+ years of hands‑on governance experience in the state.
Akhilesh Yadav Comments On Nitish Kumar
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has commented that no one can take the place of veteran Nitish Kumar as he had done a lot of good for the state and its people. Yadav remarked that Nitish had a rare image among members of the backward communities.
Meanwhile, Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav were sworn as the two deputy chief ministers.
Nishant Kumar, the son of Nitish Kumar, is said to have declined the position of deputy chief minister as he wants to stay away from formal politics.
