Brij Bhushan ‘liable to be prosecuted, punished’: police in chargesheet

According to the chargesheet filed by the Delhi Police against the head of the wrestling organisation, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, he is “liable to be prosecuted and punished for offences of sexual harassment, molestation, and stalking,” as per India Today.

According to the chargesheet, Brij Bhushan may be invited to testify in the case against him and witnesses may also be called in accordance with IPC Section 91.

According to the chargesheet that records 15 cases of sexual harassment against Brij Bhushan, the Delhi Police examined 108 witnesses during the probe. The witnesses include Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) officials, coaches, referees and co-participants of wrestling events.

Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Mallik, and Bajrang Punia are among the grapplers who have come forward with claims against Brij Bhushan out of the total number of witnesses.

All victim statements have been recorded in compliance with CrPC 161 and 164, with the exception of confirmation. The victims made both the accusations and the explanations of the harassing incidents.

Additionally, a photo that was given to the police allowed them to file a chargesheet against Brij Bhushan.

Referring to the photograph, a complainant said that Brij Bhushan touched her six times where she felt violated.

According to reports, the image was taken during a New Delhi event held at the Sirifort Auditorium.

Brij Bhushan was charged with making unwanted sexual contact in a hotel eating area in 2016 based on statements included in the chargesheet.

In the chargesheet, the allegations claim that the WFI chief harassed them and made “indecent sexual advances” to them while they were in his presence. Brij Bhushan is accused of using harassment at the Asian championships, according to the chargesheet.

In the chargesheet, a grappler accused Brij Bhushan of forcing a hug on her in Kazakhstan in 2012. Additionally, she claimed that after the incident, he kept calling her.

Brij Bhushan has been charged by the police with violating the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 354 (outraging woman’s modesty), 354A (sexual harassment), and 354D (stalking).
