The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) of the Cricket Board of India (BCCI) on Thursday appointed former Indian fast bowler Chetan Sharma as the chairman of the senior national selection panel. The CAC also selected Abe Kuruvilla and Debashish Mohanty in the 5-member team. The trio will join Sunil Joshi and Harvinder Singh, with Chetan Sharma as the chairman of the panel.

The BCCI made the announcement through the release, stating that the CAC has recommended Chetan Sharma as the chairman of the committee ‘on the basis of seniority’ in terms of test playing experience. The first meeting of the new selection committee will be to select the team for the full home series against England.

Chetan Sharma will turn 55 on 3 January. He has played 23 Test matches and was one of the 11 candidates interviewed on Thursday. According to the BCCI, the CAC will review the three selectors after one year.

A new panel was formed on the occasion of the 89th annual general meeting of BCCI in Ahmedabad. Sharma, a former Indian player, has represented the country in 23 Tests and 65 ODIs in an 11-year international career (1983–94), a hat-trick in the 1987 World Cup.
