Commonwealth Games 2022: Mirabai Chanu wins gold; India’s 3rd medal on Day 2. Watch

Commonwealth Games 2022: Its a gold for India, the first one in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022. India’s ace weightlifter Mirabai Chanu has won the gold medal in women’s 49 kg clean and jerk event.

Chanu lifted a total of 201 kg to give India their third medal at the games.

She has also set Commonwealth Games record by lifting 201 kg in total.

She lifted 84kg (snatch) in her opening attempt, and went on to lift 88kg in her second. Her third attempt of 90kg was unsuccessful.

In the second round, she directly started with the weight 109 kg and she didn’t disapoint. She lifted 113 kg in the second attempt of the last round.

However, she failed to lift the weight in her last attempt which was of 115 kg.

So far, India won two medals in the CWG 2022. Weightlifter Sanket Sargar broke the deadlock after clinching a silver medal in the men’s 55kg category.

Gururaja Poojary then gave India its second medal, winning a bronze in the men’s 61 kg finals.
