Commonwealth games 2022: weightlifter Bindyarani Devi bags silver medal

Commonwealth games 2022: The 23-year-old, Bindyarani Devi made the nation proud by winning the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022, Birmingham. The weightlifter from Imphal had proved her power in top-level weightlifting.

Devi lost her gold to Nigeria’s Adijat Adenike Olarinoye by merely one point in the women’s 55kg finals. Even though she failed to grab the gold medal, the 23-year-old lifted 116kg in her third attempt in the clean and jerk round, that was also her personal best. Her third attempt turned out to be a record in Commonwealth Games.

It was almost a decade before when Devi started her weightlifting career. Back in 2013, she started putting in the hard yards. After three long years, Devi was selected for training at NCOE Imphal.

Earlier Devi won her medal when she grabbed silver in the 2016 Commonwealth Games.
Back in 2019, she won gold at the Commonwealth senior championship. Two years later, she won silver in the same tournament.
