Cricket Viral Video: On March 29, 2004, during a Test cricket match between India and Pakistan in Multan, Virender Sehwag made history by becoming the first Indian to score a triple century. His outstanding performance captured the spotlight, even though Sachin Tendulkar was on the verge of a double century. However, India’s captain, Rahul Dravid, made the controversial choice to declare the innings when Tendulkar was just six runs away from his double century. This decision sparked significant debate and raised questions among fans and the media.
Rahul Dravid’s controversial move
During the tea break on the second day of the game, India had amassed a total of 588 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. Sachin Tendulkar remained unbeaten at 165, while Yuvraj Singh was at 11 runs. India’s goal was to score as many runs as possible to force Pakistan to bat towards the end of the day’s play. Sachin had approximately 15 overs left to reach his 200-run milestone, needing 35 more runs. Following the tea break, Sachin played aggressively, adding 29 runs to his total in just 35 balls during the final session. Unfortunately, Yuvraj was dismissed on the fifth ball of the same over after sharing the strike with Sachin for a while.
Following Yuvraj Singh’s dismissal on the fifth ball of an over, Rahul Dravid made a daring move by declaring India’s innings at 675/5. Despite not taking any wickets on the second day, India successfully restricted Pakistan to 407 runs in their first innings, establishing a commanding 268-run lead. India then imposed the follow-on, leading to Pakistan being bowled out for 216 in their second innings, ultimately securing a resounding victory by an innings and 52 runs.

Dravid’s decision was driven by the team’s strategic interests, aiming to force Pakistan to bat in the final hour of the game. Although there was initial disappointment over the declaration, Tendulkar and Dravid swiftly resolved the matter and continued to collaborate for India’s success in numerous future matches.
