Cricket Viral Video: Back in 1998, Sachin Tendulkar played a crucial match against Australia, and he ended up playing one of the most incredible innings. He scored 143 runs, which helped India get to the final and made him one of the greatest batsmen ever to play the game. The innings is now known as 'Desert Storm' knock fondly by the fans.
The Desert Storm inning is still talked about as one of Sachin Tendulkar's greatest performances. It happened during a crucial match against Australia at Sharjah, which was part of a triangular series involving New Zealand. Before this match on April 22, 1998, India had only won one out of their three games, while Australia had already secured a place in the finals by winning their first three games.
India needed to win this match to set up a final against the Australians. However, the Australian team set an imposing total of 284 for 7 in their 50 overs, which seemed impossible for India to chase. It was a memorable day in Sharjah when two sandstorms hit - one literally interrupting the match and causing India's target to be revised to 276 in 46 overs, and the other metaphorical, coming from Sachin Tendulkar's bat that nearly blew away the mighty Aussies. Tendulkar played an incredible inning of 143 off 131 balls, but unfortunately, he couldn't get India past the finish line.
With India needing just 34 runs from 18 balls, victory was still within their grasp. However, the other batters couldn't follow Tendulkar's lead and could only score 8 runs in the next three overs, leading to a 26-run loss to Australia. Despite the loss, Tendulkar was declared the Player of the Match for his innings of 9 fours and 5 sixes. It was a display of masterclass batting that is still talked about today. However, India still reached the finale due to a better run rate and won the cup. In the finale against Australia, he once again smacked a century.
Sachin Tendulkar's incredible knock against the formidable Australian team is widely considered as one of the greatest One-Day International innings of all time. He faced a top-class attack comprising of Shane Warne, Michael Kasprowicz, Damien Fleming, and Tom Moody, but Tendulkar wasn't intimidated. He took on every bowler and played with aggressive intent, sparing no one.
