DC vs MI IPL 2023: Mumbai Indians CLINCH First Victory by 6 Wickets, DC lose four-in-four | Details here

DC vs MI IPL 2023: In the 16th match of IPL, Mumbai Indians has defeated Delhi Capitals by a a margin of 6 wickets at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. This is the first victory for MI in this season while it is the fourth consecutive defeat for DC, as they continue to remain win-less in the tournament amidst the bottom spot on the table. Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bowl first. Axar Patel’s heroic knock of 54 run from 25 balls led DC to a score of 172 runs. In response, MI batters completely outpowered bowlers as they chased down the target on the last ball, with captain Rohit Sharma’s 65 run knock.

MI Batters lead to first victory

Coming to chase a target of 173, the Mumbai Indians team had a great start as they scored 68 runs without any loss just in the powerplay. Opener Ishan Kishan scored 31 runs off 26 balls, hitting six boundaries in his brief knock. Skipper Rohit Sharma scored first fifty in 24 innings scoring 65 runs off 45 balls. Tilak Verma played a valiant knock of 41 runs off 29 balls.

Suryakumar Yadav, continuing his bad form, was dismissed on golden duck. This was his fourth golden duck in six innings. Cameron Green scored 17* off 8 balls in the end, and took his team across the winning line. Mukesh Kumar picked a couple of wickets while Mustafizur Rahman picked a wicket as well.

Axar Patel and Behrendorff’s Storm

Earlier, Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to field first in the clash. Delhi Capitals had a brisk start with opener Prithvi Shaw scoring 15 off 10 falls and getting dismissed under 4 overs. In the powerplay, the home team made 51 runs with a loss of one wicket. Skipper and opener David Warner scored 51 off 47 balls while No.3 batter Manish Pandey scored 26 off 18 balls.

Turnaround for the team happened when bowler Axar Patel came into bat. He slammed a 22-ball-fifty and ended up scoring 54 runs off 25 balls, hitting four boundaries and five maximums with a strike rate of 216. None of the other batter could go past 5 run mark. Team ended with a total of 172 runs as Behrendorff’s 19th over gave 4 wickets. However, Axar Patel’s knock was the highlight of the inning. Piyush Chawla and Behrendorff picked three wicket haul while Riley and Hrithik picked two and one, respectively.
