Delhi Court Issues Summons to BJP MP and Wrestling Federation President Brij Bhushan Singh in Harassment Case

Brij Bhushan Singh: Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, a BJP MP, and outgoing Wrestling Federation of India president Vinod Tomar were both subpoenaed by a Delhi court on Friday after it took cognizance of the chargesheet brought against them for allegedly harassing, assaulting, and stalking six female wrestlers. The following case has been scheduled for July 18 at 2:30 pm by the Rouse Avenue Court.

Details of the Harassment Case against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh

Seven female wrestlers, including a minor, filed separate accusations of criminal intimidation and sexual harassment against Singh at the Connaught Place police station on April 21. In their petition to the Supreme Court, the wrestlers complained that the police were failing to file the FIRs. Police subsequently filed two FIRs on April 28 alleging at least two instances of Singh requesting “sexual favours” in place of expert assistance. Later, in a new statement made before a magistrate, the youngster and her father—the complainant—withdrew their accusations against Singh.

BJP MP and Wrestling Federation Official Face Multiple Offenses in Harassment Case

The BJP MP has been charged by the Delhi Police for violating the Indian Penal Code sections 354, 354A, and 354D, which deal with criminal force for outraging a woman’s modesty, sexual harassment, and stalking, respectively. In addition to being accused of sexual harassment and upsetting a woman’s modesty, Vinod Tomar, assistant secretary of the WFI, has also been charged with aiding an act and criminal intimidation in accordance with sections 109 and 506, respectively. Sections 354 and 354A of the IPC’s common charges against Singh and Tomar are typically categorised as “offences against women.” In addition, Tomar is charged with criminal intimidation and aiding an offence under Sections 506 and 109, while Singh is charged separately with stalking under Section 354D IPC. Tomar has also been charged separately with criminal intimidation and aiding an act in violation of IPC Sections 506 and 109.
