Carlos Alcaraz: The current Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcarez continued his brilliant form in Hopman Cup as well. He won his match against Borna Coric but was not able to save Spain from getting knocked out of the event.
Croatia won the tournament last time in 1996 and is aiming to win their second Hopman Cup. They qualified for the final after this victory against Spain and will play the final on Sunday. With the hope to win the completion for the second time.
Carlos Alcaraz and Rebeka Masarova represented Spain while Borna Coric and Donna Vekic were the representative from Spain. The result came down to the final mixed team match to decide the winner in this intense battle.
Carlos Sensational Victory
Vekic won the first set against Masarova in straight sets with the scoreline of 6-2, 6-1. The World ranked 22 was all over her Spanish opponent and gave her no chance to come back in the game.
But World No.1 made sure that this was not the last we will see of Spain. In a grueling match, he defeated Coric with the scoreline of 6-3,6-7(6), (10-5). It was the best Alcaraz that we saw in the Wimbledon finals.
The first set was over in an instant as the Wimbledon champion took care of it in just half an hour. Coric fought hard in the second test and won a very tight and close second set that could have gone anywhere.
But we saw the best of Alcaraz in the tiebreaker where he did not let his opponent even breathe. But the mixed team of Spain was not able to handle the Croatians and lost the game with a scoreline of 1-6,6-4, 14-12.
An Intense Final
Croatia will face the defending champions Switzerland in the finals on Sunday. Switzerland won the title in its last iteration in 2019 where Roger Federer led them to victory against Germany.
