US Open 2023: The scripts have changed and the world was not ready for it. In a very intense semi-finals where almost whole crowd was with Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev did the unthinkable.
And to everyone thinks that the match was close, let us tell you something, it was not. Medvedev defeated the defending champion in four sets with dominating the whole game. Spanish star fighting spirit was visible in glimpses but it was not enough to save him.
Arthur Ashe was stunned when the match got over and there was a uncomfortable silence in the arena. but Medvedev not only defeated the second seeded defending champion but also set up a rematch that has everyone’s eyes.
An Enormous Effort
Even though Alcaraz was deadly in serves in the first set, the Russian held his ground completely. He was struggling, in pain, but he did not let the set go. He claimed the set in a tie-breaker 7-6.
The second set was completely dominated by him and he did not let the Spanish star breathe. Alcaraz had only dropped one set till his journey to the semi finals but he lost the second set 6-1.
He fought back in the third set and won it 6-3. That is where Medvedev decided to hold his ground once again. As he got the final point the score read 7-6,6-1,3-6,6-3. A shambolic upset that no one expected.
US Open 2023: An Intense Finale
Novak Djokovic defeated Ben Shelton in straight sets to book his place in the finals of Flushing Meadows. It will be his 36th Grand Slam final, most by any player in Open Era. it was also his 100th US Open Match and he has only lost 13 till now.
Daniil Medvedev will face Novak for the 15th time. The Serbian lead the race right now with 9 wins as the Russian has only won 5. It will be good time for Medvedev to close that score. The last time these two faced each other was in 2021 US Open final where Medvedev defeated Djokovic in straight sets.
