Dutee Chand: Big blow for India ahead of Asian Games ! Sprinter Chand caught in doping test | Details here

Dutee Chand: Following a negative analytical result in her urine sample by WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency), star sprinter Dutee Chand has been temporarily banned. At an out-of-competition testing procedure, the positive result was returned. SARMs, a group of medicinal substances with anabolic effects akin to those of anabolic steroids but with lessened androgenic (creating masculine traits) capabilities, are the illegal chemical for which Dutee tested positive.

Dutee Chand reacts to the test

However, reacting to the news, Dutee said, “I am completely unaware about this. I have received no information from any body on any positive test. I cannot take any steps about this without knowing the details. I will have to see where the test was conducted and then act accordingly.”

According to the WADA website’s list of prohibited drugs, these chemicals have the potential to be abused for performance enhancement in sports due to their anabolic qualities and capacity to trigger androgen receptors in bone and muscle, resulting in bone and muscle development.

The “A” sample from Dutee has tested positive. The athlete’s appeal and a test of her “B” sample are probably what happens next in this incident. Dutee also remarked, “Like when it happened with Dhanalakshmi and so many others, the WADA sent them a letter informing them of the details of where they had gone wrong. I have not received any official notification so far. I will appeal against the suspension.”

Dutee holds various records in sprinting

Dutee currently holds the 100-meter sprint national record. She is a member of the quartet that holds the national record in the 4*100m relay sprint, together with Hima Das, Dhanalakshmi Sekar, and Archana Suseendran.

At the Asian Games, Dutee won two silver medals in the 100-meter and 200-meter races. She is the first Indian to win a gold medal in the 100-meter event at a world championship.

At the inter-university tournament for the North and East Zone last month, she was last spotted competing. She would have been most interested in competing in this year’s largest competition, the 2022 Asian Games, which were postponed and will now take place in September 2023.
