ENG vs IRE: In Wednesday’s encounter at the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, England pacer Mark Wood dismissed Ireland’s opener Paul Stirling with a blazing 150 kph delivery. At the Melbourne Cricket Ground, England and Ireland faced off in a Super 12 match.
After choosing to bowl after winning the toss, England made their initial breakthrough when Wood bamboozled Stirling with his pace in the third over. Wood received unexpectedly quick additional bounces, and Stirling sliced at the ball to send it flying into the grasp of third man Sam Curran. Watch the rocket delivery by Mark Wood here:
Andrew Balbirnie played a captain’s knock with a 47-ball 62 for Ireland, who steadied their innings despite losing the wicket of seasoned T20 World Cup standout Paul Stirling early. With 34 runs off 27 balls, Lorcan Tucker supported his captain. Ireland was 92 for 1 following their outstanding partnership of 10 overs. The batting order, however, disintegrated in the second half of the innings, losing 9 wickets for 65 runs and being dismissed for 157 with four balls remaining.
Ireland set a target of 158 for England. With the ball, Mark Wood shone, capturing three wickets for 34 runs in four overs. The best bowler was Liam Livingstone, who had a 3 for 17 total. In 3 overs, Sam Curran took 2 wickets for 31 runs.
