Gautam Gambhir turns his guns on journalist Rajat Sharma; spat with Virat Kohli after IPL match not ready to die down

IPL 2023

IPL 2023: After the Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), in which the latter team prevailed, former India batsman Gautam Gambhir criticised senior journalist Rajat Sharma for his coverage of an alleged altercation between him and star batsman Virat Kohli. Sharma previously served as the president of the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA).

This was the whole incident

At the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Monday, an altercation broke out after RCB bowled LSG out for 108 and scored 126/9 in 20 overs, with captain KL Rahul trying to bat through a leg injury to try to lead his team to victory. When the LSG wickets fell during their innings, Kohli acted aggressively as is his style. He was also seen giving the crowd kisses. The LSG squad coach Gambhir had asked the RCB home crowd to stay quiet in the previous match between the two teams last month after the visitors had eked out a close victory. Along with kissing the Lucknow supporters when their team lost a wicket, Kohli also imitated Gambhir by putting his finger to his lips and requesting that they be silent. After the game, LSG’s Kyle Mayers approached Kohli and was about to say something when Gambhir arrived and removed the West Indian. After this incident, cameras captured Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli having an impassioned conversation. Separating the two were seen other players, including KL Rahul, and support personnel. The LSG captain KL Rahul and Kohli were then spotted having a protracted conversation.

Rajat Sharma Slams Gautam Gambhir

Following his election as a Member of Parliament on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket, Rajat Sharma claimed in his news programme that Gambhir had an inflated ego. Virat, whom he described as a “aggressive, no-nonsense player,” was someone who could “give it back” to Gambhir, according to him as well. The Journalist went on to say that Gambhir’s conduct was improper for a member of parliament, against sportsmanship, and harmful to gentleman’s play.
