ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Shoab Akhtar Slams Babar Azam Captaincy! Takes A Dig At Imran Khan? Read

ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Pakistan skipper Babar Azam can't catch a break at the moment. After a disastrous exit from the T20 World Cup, the whole world came crashing down on him.

He is under tremendous pressure at the moment as everyone is questioning his captaincy position. And the way Babar was reappointed as Pakistan's skipper, questions need to be asked to the board.

Babar lost his captaincy after the ODI World Cup 2023 group stage exit and Shaheen Shah Afridi replaced him. But in a very curious manner, Babar was reappointed as the skipper just after one series right before the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

'Who Was The Einstein'

That decision made everyone confused and the fact is that Babar has not proved himself as the skipper till now. He failed in the Asia Cup, ODI World Cup, and now in T20 World Cup as well.

Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar was furious and slammed PCB for promoting Babar to captaincy once again. He stated that Babar is not captaincy material and needs to prove himself.

"Who made Babar Azam the captain in the first place? Who was Einstein by the way? I need to know that guy. Does he qualify for this job? Does he even know a thing or two about captaincy? I've been saying that Babar Azam is not a captain material."

This statement by Akhtar was an indirect dig at then PCB chairman Imran Khan. Imran Khan was also Pakistan's Prime Minister at that time and he promoted Babar as the captain only after seeing him twice.

ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Babar Future?

Shoaib Akhtar also opened up about Babar's future and what he needs to do after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 humiliation. He stated "What's going to happen to Babar now? He is now going to come down at number 4.

Babar has to finish the games. He has to win the games, if he doesn't, he won't be able to keep his place in T20I. I am telling you right now. He won't be able to find his place in ODIs if he can't finish. The finisher Babar has to come out again.

That's when the character comes out. He needs to get in that kind of a position. I am bluntly telling this to Babar, you need to remain a superstar. Get to know how to finish games."
