Mohammad Nawaz: Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz is facing serious challenges after he tested positive for a recreational drug. An official inquiry has been initiated by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after the issue was flagged by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Mohammad Nawaz-When Did Drug Scandal Happened?
Nawaz, who plays for Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026, has played 44 one-day internationals, 6 tests and 98 T20 internationals for Pakistan. The 32-year-old tested positive for drugs during the T20 World Cup 2026 that was hosted by Sri Lanka and India.
DON'T MISS
Nawaz played all 7 matches for the team in the premier event, taking 7 wickets and scoring 15 runs. The PCB could possibly ban Mohammad Nawaz from any further participation in the Pakistan Super League 2026. In this year’s PSL, Nawaz has struggled taking just 6 wickets in 8 games at a poor strike rate of 32.66.
Interestingly, Nawaz was scheduled to participate in the T20 blast for Surrey this year, running from May 26 to July 18. A no-objection certificate was also issued to him by the PCB but it is now believed that Nawaz would not join Surrey.
Pakistan’s Doping Past
This is not the first time that Pakistan Cricket has been forced to deal with a doping scandal. In the past, several big names such as Waqar Younis, Shoaib Akhtar, Wasim Akram, Mushtaq Ahmed, Saqlain Mushtaq and Aaqib Javed have been found guilty of or accused of recreational drugs or anabolic androgenic steroids. In fact, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Aaqib Javed and Mushtaq Ahmed all faced marijuana charges in 1993 while on tour overseas.
Born on 12 March 1994, Nawaz is a left-handed batsman and a slow left-arm orthodox bowler. He has played for several domestic teams like Rawalpindi, National Bank of Pakistan, Northern and Baluchistan.
