Pujara quit the game after the first inning for 90 after falling short of a century, but he quickly moved past his sadness and hit the triple-figure mark in the second inning. With 102 runs off 130 balls and a strike rate of 78.46, the right-hander recorded his 19th Test century. His test century was his fastest to date.

Pujara now ranks alongside legends like Ross Taylor (New Zealand), Gordon Greenidge (West Indies), Clive Lloyd (West Indies), and Mike Hussey (Australia) with 19 hundreds (Australia).

Cheteshwar Pujara all set to surpass Don Bradman

Pujara will have the opportunity to surpass Australia batting legend Don Bradman when India, which is currently leading the two-match series, takes on Bangladesh in the second Test starting on Thursday (December 22).

Pujara needs just 12 runs to surpass Bradman’s total of 6996 runs, who has 6984 runs in Tests. Bradman participated in 52 Tests and amassed 6996 Tests with a 99.94 average.

Pujara, who played in 97 Test matches before making his Test debut in 2010 against Australia in Bengaluru, has so far amassed 6984 runs at an average of 44.76. The cricketer from Saurashtra has scored the sixth most runs for India in tests.

The top-scoring batsman on the list is Sachin Tendulkar, who has 15921 runs in 200 Test matches at an average of 53.78.
