INDW vs IREW: The match which was touted to be a virtual quarterfinal for India, has proved to be a significant one for Smriti Mandhana as well. The star Indian opener smashed a valiant 87-run knock off 56 balls in the match where other batters failed to perform. Her inning included nine boundaries and three maximums. The star opener continued to thrash bowlers and was nearing her century but constant fall of wickets from the other end increased the pressure and she was eventually dismissed.
Other batters fail to perform
During the course of her innings, Smriti Mandhana appeared to be playing in a game of her own. She hammered the Ireland Women’s bowlers around the stadium as she continued to bat with the strike rate of 155.36. Shafali Verma, another opener for India could manage to score just 24 off 29 balls. Meanwhile, Richa Ghosh was caught out in the first ball itself as she went for a duck.
Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur who was playing her 150th T20I match for India, highest ever for any cricketer, failed to perform as well. She scored 13 runs off 20 balls. Deepti Sharma too was out for a duck in the match. In such a scenario, Smriti Mandhana’s knock proved to be quite necessary as the team eventually put 155/5 after 20 overs.
