INDW vs IREW: Team India has won the crucial match against Ireland Women in the group stage of Women’s T20 World Cup. The match was interrupted during the second innings of the match, when Ireland Women were batting at 54/2 after 8.2 overs. Since then the rain did not stop and the required DLS score was 59. Ultimately, Ireland Women fell short by fate and five runs, allowing India a smooth victory and entry to the semis.
Smriti Mandhana powered India with stunning knock
Earlier, India’s opener Smriti Mandhana put on a career-best performance, scoring 87 runs off just 56 balls, and leading the team to a steady powerplay score of 42/0 in 6 overs alongside Shafali Verma. After Verma’s dismissal in the 10th over, Mandhana partnered with Kaur to make a valuable 50-run partnership, which helped India achieve a challenging total of 155/6. None of the other batters could make a significant impact in the game
Ireland Women in the second innings got off to a very poor start as they lost their opener Amy under on the first ball due to a runout. In the fifth ball of the over, Orla was bowled by Renuka Singh Thakur. However, Ireland Women pulled off a stunning comeback from their as Gaby Lewis hit 32 off 25 while skipper Laura hit 17 off 20 balls. However, fate had other plans and rains halted the match, cancelling it ultimately.
India reaches the semifinal
India’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur opted to bat first against Ireland in the final match of group stage. The match was perceived as the virtual quarterfinal. India will now play in the semifinal and will hope to take on the coveted trophy this time. It was a special day for ICT as skipper Harmanpreet played her 150th T20I match, the most for any cricketer.
