IPL 2023: Despite the intense speculation surrounding MS Dhoni’s future in the IPL, the captain of CSK garnered immense admiration on Sunday, even after a crushing six-wicket defeat against KKR at the Chepauk stadium. Following the loss, Dhoni graciously expressed his gratitude towards the fans by taking a lap around the stadium while wearing a kneecap.
MS Dhoni takes a lap around Chepauk
Since the inception of the league in 2008, the fans at the Chepauk have consistently shown unwavering support for Dhoni, considering him a revered figure in Chennai, almost like a deity. Post-match, MS Dhoni took a lap around the home ground as this was their last match this season at the venue. He also tossed up some balls to the stands using a racquet as fans went berserk after seeing their idol. Dhoni had suffered a knee injury in the start of the tournament, however, he continues to play despite having problem while running.
Dhoni also autographed Sunil Gavaskar’s shirt and Rinku Singh’s jersey during the post-match lap. During the post-match presentation, skipper Dhoni said, “One of those days when you win the toss and bat first and the moment the first ball was bowled in the second innings, you realise it is a 180 wicket. Batting first I don’t think we could have got anywhere close to 180. I think the dew made a big difference. If you compare the first innings to the second innings, there was a lot more purchase for the spinners in the first innings and that’s what really got to us.”
