Earlier, Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to field first in the clash. Regular captain Rohit Sharma wasn’t a part of the playing X1 due to a stomach bug, however, it is likely he will come out later as an impact player. Suryakumar Yadav is the stand-in captain. KKR batters did not have a great start in the match since they continued losing wickets from one end. However, Venkatesh stood to his ground and smashed a valiant century in just 49 balls.

Throughout his knock, he hit five boundaries and nine maximums, playing at a strike rate of 204.08. He also got injured during the fourth over of the innings which was being bowled by Cameroon Green. He had previously smashed a boundary in the over and wanted to do so again, and tried hitting a reverse scoop. However, he couldn’t time it and missed the bat, but, the ball came straight to his knee and injured him. The injury was significant as he immediately fell on ground and physios and even MI players rushed to him. However, he got up after a while and continued to rain sixes in the ground.
