MI vs UPW WPL 2023: Mumbai Indians STORM into finale with massive 72 runs victory, to clash with Delhi Capitals

MI vs UPW WPL 2023: Mumbai Indians have defeated UP Warriorz by a big margin of 72 runs and successfully stormed into the finale of WPL 2023. They will now clash against Delhi Capitals on 26th March at Brabourne Stadium. UP Warriroz won the toss and decided to bowl in the match, but Mumbai Indians posted mammoth 182 runs on board with Sciver Brunt’s magnificent 72* run knock. Chasing the target, the Allysa Healy-led team completely failed and were bundled out for just 110 runs in 17.4 overs. Issy Wong recorded a hat-trick in the match, the first ever of the tournament which completely dashed the hopes of the opposition. Only Kiran Navgire could show some resistance as she scored 43 in 27 balls.

UP Warriroz’ batting collapse

Coming to the chase, UP Warriorz had a disappointing start as opener Shweta Sehrawat scored 1 run of 8 balls. Opener and captain Allysa Healy was also dismissed for 11 runs off 6 balls. Kiran Navgire played an aggressive knock of 43 runs off 27 balls, hitting four boundaries and three maximums. Star batter Grace also scored just 14 runs.

At one moment with Kiran on the crease and hitting big shots, the match looked under the momentum of UP Warriroz but then Issy Wong picked up the first-ever hat trick of the tournament and completely derailed the opposition. She took the wickets of Kiran, Simran, and Sophie Ecclestone. Ishaque grabbed a couple of wickets while Matthews, Nat Sciver Brunt and Kalita also picked a wicket each.

Sciver Brunt’s sensational knock

Earlier, Allysa Healy won the toss and decided to bowl first. Furthermore, the Mumbai Indians didn’t start on a good note. Opener Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews scored 21 and 26 respectively. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur also failed as she managed to score 14 runs off 15 balls. However, Nat Sciver Brunt rose up to the occasion and scored a blistering 72* off 38 balls, taking her team to a significant total of 182 runs in 20 overs.

In the end, Amelia Kerr scored 29 off 19 while Pooja Vastrakar scored 11 runs off 4 balls, hitting a boundary and a maximum. Ecclestone picked a couple of wickets while Anjali Sarvani and Parshavi claimed a wicket each.
