Novak and Nadal on the list for US Open tuneup

The U.S. Tennis Association is planning to stage the two tournaments back-to-back in New York

Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal have entered the US Open tuneup tournament to be played in New York.

The U.S. Tennis Association is planning to stage the two tournaments back-to-back in New York while the coronavirus outbreak worsens in other parts of the country and there are lingering questions about international travel.

The tournament will be played from August 20-28 in a quarantine environment without an audience at the National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, where the Grand Slam hardcourt showdown would begin August 31 in similar conditions.

In a recent interview, Novak Djokovic stated about conditions under which he will be performing and the various challenges which he may accept.

Dimitrov, played at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) on Saturday and Sunday, faced losses against Richard Gasquet and Feliciano Lopez.

Dimitrov is still suffering from the effects of coronavirus

“I’m just trying to put in effort every single day,” he told Tennis Majors.

“Even if I’m tired or not, to keep progressing. One day I feel really well and I have about four hours to be out, but then all of a sudden I need to completely shut down to take a nap or just rest. I have to go through that process as much as possible. Hopefully, I’m going to recover fully.”

Dimitrov, the world number 19, said he was grateful to be playing again after his initial struggle with coronavirus.

“I guess it [COVID-19] is different for everyone. I was not breathing well. I was tired. I had no taste, no smell,” he said.
